In the news section today, there are a couple of stories about video surveillance in western cities, most notably New York City and London.  One cites decadent billionaire Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who overtly sanctions this tool of big government.  Of  course, it only makes sense; any effete people would sacrifice liberty for security, right?  Thomas Jefferson be darned.

Unfortunately, the assumption that the solution to society’s ills is to
strip rights from all is now deeply ingrained.  It much reminds me of
an experience in elementary school.  One day we were in gym class and a
certain girl misbehaved.  Instead of punishing the transgressor, which
would have been the right course of action, the teacher fancied that a
fitting remedy would be to remove the whole class from gym (and, of
course, the girl probably didn’t want to be there anyway).

While the situation isn’t perfectly analogous to what I’m addressing
today, it is apropos.  Whether the issue is child-rearing, criminal
justice, terrorism or something else, the philosophy is always the
same: The good of the few outweighs the good of the many.

As you know, we’re making these concessions to Big Brother mainly due
to the threat of terrorism.  The problem is, though, that the terrorism
bedeviling us is not a vague, ill-defined problem; no, we know what
world view serves as its impetus and exactly what profile the
perpetrators fit.  The issue is Islamic terrorism perpetrated by
Moslems; moreover, most perpetrators also fit a certain racial profile.

Thus, a sane civilization would instinctively understand the remedy.  Proper profiling
— which includes racial and religious elements — is in order.  Ah, we
can’t discriminate, you say?  Well, believing this doesn’t make you a
bad person, but it does mean you’ve drunk the Kool-Aid.  We
discriminate all the time, only, it’s not noticed when it happens to
groups that don’t find favor with the politically correct thought
police.

Then, here is what virtually no one will say: Did it ever occur to
anyone that if Moslems weren’t on our soil, we wouldn’t have to worry
about domestic Moslem terrorism?  Why are we still allowing immigration
from Moslem countries?  Why?  Because political correctness has made us
suicidal to a point where we imperil ourselves both culturally and
physically.

The truth may hurt, but far more painful over the long haul is the
embrace of lies.  Are we to believe that the right of aliens to use our
land as a boarding house takes precedence over our right to freedom?
And that is the choice.  If we want to bring the Middle East to
America, we have to expect that the limited freedoms of that area won’t
be far behind.

Sacrificing liberty for security?  It’s more like we’re sacrificing liberty for immigration.

Which presidential candidate is for send-them-packing immigration reform?
P.S. They can keep their checkered tablecloths, too.

I’ve been searching about surveillance solutions. I found your post very helpful for those who are looking for consumer electronics. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading.
