The big news in the broadcast industry is Rush Limbaugh’s record-breaking, $400 million radio deal.  It promises to keep him on the air through 2016, a prospect that should please liberals to no end.

So I was driving around today, and I tuned in to my friend Michael Savage; he was talking about the deal and how it exemplified the health of talk radio.  He contrasted the medium with television and the newspaper industry, both of which are suffering.  In fact, there are currently many stories in the media about how newspaper advertising revenue is collapsing, prompting various papers to drastically cut jobs.   Savage  mentioned some reasons for this, and I’d like to add my two cents.

You’ll note that all the failing media have one thing in common: A liberal orientation.  Now, if you think my point is simply that traditionalists are tuning out, keep reading.  That factor is obvious, but there is another, more subtle one.

As the obsession with empty suit Barack Obama and our left-shifting culture prove, there certainly is no shortage of liberals in our country.  So, I ask you, where were they when leftist radio network Airhead America needed listeners?  I would ask about their failure to buy newspapers, but we know liberals generally are unaware that hard-copy publications still exist.  Well, for some insight into this issue, consider the following, which I culled from the comments section at Fark.com (a site which attracts liberals like manure does flies).  It’s a reaction to the Limbaugh story, and one commenter is responding to another:

"Radio is for queers.

No, queers know how to use an iPod and/or can use Sirius or XM. Radio is for old people. AM radio doubly so."

This is more reflective of liberals — especially young ones — than some might think.  A very high percentage of them simply don’t read news and substantive commentary.  And when they do dabble in such things, it’s usually at sites such as The Huffington Compost, which provides forums in which they can spew hatred.  Aside from that, liberals just aren’t interested.

Why would they be?   They don’t really need information because they don’t operate intellectually, but emotionally.  They "follow their hearts"; if something feels right, that is enough.

So what do liberals occupy themselves with?  As the above comment indicates, it’s frivolity.  They listen to music or shock jocks, watch comedy or imbibe porn; they want to be titillated, entertained, occupied and sedated.  They would rather you be cool than clever, sardonic than sophisticated.

For instance, consider the young people who attend Barack Obama rallies.  It may seem logical to assume that they’re interested in politics; I mean, it takes some impetus to attend a political event, right?

Think again.  What percentage of those overgrown children do you suppose would actually read deep political commentary?  How many would study the candidates in a meaningful way?  I can guarantee you that they wouldn’t touch a news column unless it was wrapped around a gram of wacky tobacky.  Yes, they may attend an Obama rally, but it’s akin to a rock concert to them.  The Illinois senator captures their support because he’s a cool cat, dude.  Do you think they would, even for a second, consider that Obama might have bad points?  Do you think they care?

This is one reason why liberal media fail.  The kind of people who would be interested in liberal media, aren’t interested in media.  In contrast, right-wing talk radio prospers because their main demographic is traditionalists, people who are actually educated, inquisitive, conscientious and engaged.  They have a sense of civic duty.  They like to think.

This also places liberals’ criticism of talk radio figures in perspective.   If asked, they would tell you that people such as Savage, Limbaugh and Hannity are the spawn of the Devil with an assurance indicating that they’ve compiled dossiers on those men.   Of course, if liberals aren’t going to listen to Airhead America, they’re certainly not going to listen to traditionalist talk radio long enough to actually understand where those in the business really stand.

Yet, they nevertheless are sure about their impressions of these radio personalities.  Why?  Because they’re ruled by their prejudices; in their set — and they follow the flock more than anyone — there are certain people you just have to hate.  And, I mean, liberals just know that all traditionalists are racist, sexist old fogies.  They’re not cool like Obama.

At the end of the day, liberals are just too with it to be hung up on politics.  They have better things to worry about, like sex, drugs and hip hop.  "You know, man, my friend, like, had on this radio, man, and guess what?  There was like some guy talking about political stuff.  I just said, ‘Yo, radio is for queers and old people.  It’s like history, dude.’"

How you make the switch from Limbaugh’s blather on AM talk radio, to liberals not reading is quite a leap. You think those nimrods glued to talk radio sit around reading the great books. Ever heard one of them call in with tidbit of anything thing original?
It’s also quite a leap to suggest that oxycontin-fueled-felon, Limbaugh, offers anything in the nature of deep political commentary.
And what about this Obama “empty suit” stuff. Why don’t you leave that for Limbaugh to put in his windbag? He could just retool some material from his years of Clinton bashing.

    HA HA or whoever,
It is agreed that Limbaugh is quite 101. However the listeners to his show are usually in the car or at work (libs may need to look that word up) where reading great books is not possible substitute. Would you not say Limbaugh promotes more intellectual growth than say P-Diddy or Smack Doggy Whoever? Great books??? Do you mean like those written by Ayn Rand? Or are you thinking Vonnegut?

    Walt,
Hey, don’t tell me the construction business is so bad you can take time from checking illegal-alien counterfeit ID cards to listen to Rush?
Actually, I think his show is on the same intellectual level as the Hip-Hop acts you referred to. And they both are acts. Acts, that stimulate thought on the same level. It’s hard to be profound after all, when you’re loaded. “Smack Doggie” fans listen to him while in their cars cruising. Limbaugh’s fans listen to him while in their cars driving to Wal-Mart.
Give me a break with that sixties liberals don’t work baloney. Well, maybe the ones that inherited [businesses?] don’t. But, you know as well as anyone, the rest do.
As for Rand and Vonnegut, they are both worth reading. Savage Nation on the other hand; how many times can you cover that ground?

You racist trash should be ashamed of paying this man a ridiculous amount of money to spew his nonsense and garbage. I’m pretty sure that they can make a difference in the lives of someone who really needs it, and who is less inflammatory than this hypocritical excuse for human waste!

democrat, how dare you criticize a great man like Rush Limbaugh. And on America’s birthday no less! Rush and America, America and Rush, you can’t separate the two. To criticize Limbaugh is to criticize America, he stands for everything America stands for!
Happy birthday America, and thank you for giving us a great man like Rush Limbaugh!
And democrat, go soak your head in the red kool-aid you drink!

    John,
You need to calm down and stop trying to insult people. You kind of sound like Rush when you do that, you know? I don’t think Limbaugh stands for everything America stands for. Really, do you?
He’s just a guy from a privileged background who flunked out of college; wound up with a 4F draft deferment during the Viet Nam war (for an infected butt crack I believe…come on!); was married three times; ate himself to the size of a small zeppelin: has, or at least had, a narcotic pain killer addiction of mammoth proportions and does nothing more than broadcast a mean-spirited, often inaccurate, radio show for which he is grossly over paid.
This is what America stands for? I certainly hope not!
If you want to see somebody who stands for everything America does; check out the doctors and nurses at the nearest hospital, the cops at your local station or the firemen at the house in your neighborhood. Then see how that pompous, bloated, radio-windbag compares.

First off John I don’t drink kool-aid. Secondly, in order to be so offended, you must be one of the racist scumbags I’m speaking of. It’s just too bad for you low-lives to see that things are changing for the better, and rehashing our old racist past is not the intelligent things to do just because you can’t have your way. Yeah, happy birthday to America, but my present to you and Rush is my middle finger!

I think that many Liberals listen to talk radio. I’m a Democrat (maybe even a Liberal) but I try to catch Savage, Inghaham, Beck and always Bennet. The problem with liberal talk radio is that there are too many factions to please. Conservative radio is more traditional and easier to define. Liberal radio(and even political their view)seems to be going in all directions at once. With so many target audiences, a consistant listener base is difficult to maintain.

HHH, you’re why I’m not a liberal anymore. I know about human weakness and I’m not going to condemn Limbaugh and ignore the good he does. Liberals talk about not judging but then judge more than anyone! By the way, I say the same to my former conservative friends who became dissatisfied with Limbaugh because of his personal life. They’re not my friends anymore. Anyway, what have you don’t with your life that gives you the right to criticize a great man like Limbaugh? He’s done more in his 50-something years than you could in 100 lifetimes. You sound like a little jealous man who can’t stand someone who’s better than you. Limbaugh stands for everything America does and is hardly ever wrong about anything. You seem to be wrong about everything.

hitler was very kind to his dog – up until the time he hid himmler’s cyanide pill in his beloved pet’s food. the free market libs detest so much spoke and declared limbaugh earned ( libs should look up this word too) his raise. all they can do about it now is whine and wallow in their jealous in-bred deranged mentality – as usual. liberalism is a mental disorder. too bad there’s no pill for that … or maybe there is ?

    HC,
You’re a little hard to understand, but I’ll try anyway:
When it comes to Rush what you don’t get is that basically he is an entertainer. He spits out the party-line in a colorful, sometimes flamboyant way that has an appeal to the lower instincts. And it works for him! There is no arguing with success. He has a large listenership. Then so did (since we’re on this Nazi thing) Josef Goebbels. But, let’s leave that alone for a while.
I can tell that you are one of his (Limbaugh’s…not necessarily Goebbels’) fans, so you must recognize that what I said before about Rush’s history and character is true…The divorces, the felony, the draft evading (if not outright dodging,) the gluttony, the drug addiction. This is what you hold up as an example of conservative leadership?
Come on…I don’t think the guy has had an original thought in years. But then again, it doesn’t sound like you have either, with that “liberalism is a mental disorder” line you got from Savage.
