It seems as if taking offense is the recreation of
choice in modern America. The latest
example (of which I’m aware; I’m sure our UPS {umbrage per second} statistic is
sky high) has resulted in a planned protest at WOR Radio in Manhattan over some
comments radio talk show host Michael Savage made concerning autism. Or, to be precise, the commentary involved
not that condition but behavior that might be misdiagnosed as autism. Here is what Savage said, as reported
by wcbstv.com:

During the July 16 edition of his show,
Savage claimed that autism is “[a] fraud, a racket. … I’ll tell you what autism
is. In 99 percent of the cases, it’s a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act
out. That’s what autism is. What do you mean they scream and they’re silent?
They don’t have a father around to tell them, ‘Don’t act like a moron. You’ll
get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man.
Don’t sit there crying and screaming, idiot.’”

One person who took exception to
this commentary was Martin Schwartzman, the father of an autistic child. He opined:

“I couldn’t understand why someone
could be so heartless and so insensitive, and also so ignorant for a
national talk show host . . . . It was
so hurtful to all individuals with disabilities, particularly those with
autism, but I really think he should be removed from the air.”

For all I know, Mr. Schwartzman may
be a very decent man, but evident is that he has never listened to Savage’s
show. If he had, there are a few things
he would probably understand.

First, Michael Savage grew up with
a brother who suffered from severe retardation, one whom he loved very much and
has spoken of on numerous occasions with the deepest affection and
emotion. Listening to Savage, it’s
apparent that this experience instilled in him a respect for human life that
doesn’t end where mental impairment begins. It is why he was livid when Howard Stern mocked people so afflicted some
years back; it is why he has taken up the cudgels against euthanasia on their
behalf.

It is also why – and I’m inferring
here – Savage is no doubt more offended than most when an irresponsible
psychiatric community diagnoses normal but ill-behaved children as mentally
impaired. It bothers me as well for a
number of reasons, and I’ll explain.

Some today have a nasty habit of
labeling ambiguous sexual encounters (e.g., a woman who, after a consensual
sexual experience, gets jilted and then claims she was an unwilling participant)
as rape. Many people genuinely concerned
about real rape are outraged by this, as such a practice diminishes the
crime. After all, if you bastardize the term,
lumping in the category that which is less serious or even innocent, people
will take it less seriously. This hurts
actual rape victims, as they then may not receive the consideration, care and
redress they deserve.

It’s no different when those who are
merely ill-behaved are misdiagnosed as mentally impaired. By labeling these less serious or even
non-existent problems as mental conditions, it causes society to take authentic
ones less seriously. And when Savage
bemoans this fact, he speaks for millions who have had to care for legitimately
mentally-ill/impaired individuals. I
myself know such a caregiver, and she has lamented the fast-and-loose
psychiatric diagnoses so common today. She has seen firsthand how they take attention, consideration and
resources away from people such as her truly mentally-ill family member.

So, getting back to Mr.
Schwartzman, maybe I can assuage his feelings. Michael Savage is not saying autism doesn’t exist; he is simply pointing
out that the condition is over-diagnosed. Thus, Mr. Schwartzman, if your son is legitimately autistic, Savage
isn’t talking about you. He is not
diminishing your son’s travails but railing against those who are.

This is the spirit and meaning of
what Savage said. Sure, it’s very easy
to cherry-pick extemporaneous radio commentary for the purposes of twisting a
host’s meaning. Talk radio is a
real-time, fast-paced medium where one speaks off the cuff and often uses
hyperbole to drive home concepts. Does
Savage believe that the autism-misdiagnosis rate is actually 99 percent? I don’t know – maybe he does, maybe he
doesn’t. If he does, maybe he’s right,
maybe he isn’t. If literalism matters to
you, I suggest you ask him. But do you
really believe the condition is never
misdiagnosed? Do you really know what
the misdiagnose rate is? Well, we’re not
going to find out by silencing those who dare say the therapist has no clothes.

Regardless, trigger-happy
diagnosticians are legion in psychiatry. The most egregious example of their handiwork is ADHD, a mythical
condition that has become a handy excuse for bad behavior. I addressed it in this piece, in which I point out
that head shrinkers are now prescribing Ritalin for children as young as two years old. I also quote a rare, common-sense
psychologist named John Rosemond, who said (I’m paraphrasing):

“All children ‘have ADD’ up till
age two, but if they’re socialized properly, it’s bred out of them.”

I won’t elaborate further here, but
if you’re interested in my full analysis, read the piece I cited.

Something else in my article is
also relevant. Many may scoff at
Savage’s assertion that a child diagnosed with autism might just be “. . . a
brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out.” C’mon, could it really be an act? Well, consider an anecdote I presented:

. . . I think of a very charming friend I
had many years ago. The son of a
psychologist, he was diagnosed with a learning disability in the 1970s, before
such designations were fashionable, and attended a special school for children
so afflicted. Here is what he told me
about himself and his fellow students (it’s close to verbatim): ‘We thought it
[the ‘conditions’] was all nonsense; it was just a way to get out of doing
work.’

So such children do exist, and
they’re aided and abetted by “mental-health professionals” who are content to
be fooled – and to be foolish. Psychology
is the only field wherein the practitioners invent, or exaggerate the
prevalence of, diseases and conditions so they’ll have ready diagnoses. It isn’t just autism and ADHD. Consider what I wrote
in “The Hard Truth about a Soft Science: Why Psychology Does More Harm than
Good”:

. . . I recently read about psychiatrists
who are labeling the desire to engage in excessive text messaging a mental
disorder. Then there is “Muscle Dysmorphia,” or the obsessive belief that one
isn’t muscular enough; “celebriphilia,” the strong desire for amorous relations
with a celebrity; “Intermittent Explosive Disorder,” or road rage; “Sibling
Rivalry Disorder”; “Mathematics Disorder”; “Caffeine Related Disorder”; and
“Expressive Writing disorder” . . . a defiant child or employee isn’t ruled by
pride but has “Oppositional Disorder,” a person with a lack of gratitude isn’t
just that but one who suffers from “Chronic Complaint Disorder” . . . .

Now, in light of the above, don’t
you think that maybe, just perhaps, misdiagnosis and over-diagnosis might be a
problem? Isn’t suspicion of psychiatric
determinations warranted?

Then there is the reason why the
psychiatric profession suffers from what I’ll call “Chronic Disorder Invention
Disorder”: Money. Every time it labels
what was formerly called a sin as a disease or condition of the brain, its
market grows. “Hey, I just thought of a
new category.”

Ka-ching.

ADHD?

Ka-ching.

Over-diagnosing autism?

Ka-ching, ka-ching, ka-ching.

“Can you diagnosis me,
doctor?” “Why, yes, patient, you’re
$30,000 sick.”

So, you folks who care for the
truly mentally impaired should be upset, but not at Michael Savage. He has been there; he has carried that
cross. Direct you ire at those afflicted
with a “disorder” lamented since time immemorial.

It’s
called greed.

Now that we’ve glazed over the portrayal of autism by the modern media, lets talk about the REAL issues at hand.
Autism is not a psychiatric disorder. It is a neurological disorder. It is therefore biological as opposed to mental. There is no reason an autistic should have to be on medications such as risperdal (risperidone) or ritalin unless there is a comorbid disorder or condition that calls for such treatment. An autistic cannot be cured without changing the physiology of the brain. This is just not a possibility. Even if it were, it would not be possible to do without changing the very essence of the person being treated. It is possible however to improve the lives of autistics through certain therapies and supports. So why are most autistics not experiencing such life changing improvements?
Because most families affected by autism are financially strained due to many factors related directly to the effects of autism. On top of that, we have a very unfortunate situation where people are throwing money towards the idea of a “cure” for autism when in reality all that the search for a cure can lead to are methods of “preventive maintenance” of sorts.
Methods such as not having children if it is determined that there is a great likelihood of bearing an autistic offspring. Methods such as prenatal testing to determine if a child within the womb will have a high likelihood of being an autistic. The latter leading to the mass genocide of autistic persons via abortion.
You might think that the term “genocide” is extreme. If so, just ask an adult autistic. One whose life has been greatly enhanced through the ability to meet other autistics who can identify with the struggles that he experiences everyday. Yes, adult autistics really do exist and yes they do have struggles that are brought about by living in societies that were not made with the autistic in mind.
While money is now being poured into charities that often capitalize on uninformed parents who long for a cure that cannot be found, we have real autistics in real families that are needing help right now just to subsist. Real autistics with real social, sensory and biological issues that come part and parcel with autism.
Even single parent families of autistic children who are not welcomed in the public schools, in their own churches, at their friend’s homes or in other areas of society that most persons take for granted. Also, parents who fear placing their children in public school settings for fear of being forced to have those children placed into residential treatment (i.e. institutionalized). Parents who have given in to pressure and institutionalized their children for lack of resources, etc. Even autistic children who are being submitted to electric shocks in such institutions. If you don’t believe me, look up the Judge Rotenberg Center.
Recently in a Canadian public school, an autistic child died after being rolled into a weighted blanket and left unattended. This incident was apparently due to a lack of training given to the teachers at the school. These things are REAL and are happening NOW.
Thus, I say to you that instead of focusing all of our energy on drugging children who do not need to be drugged and on the pipe dream of finding a so called cure, we need to be helping our nation’s autistics. We need to be pouring our funds into charities that help to enable our autistic friends and family members to lead happy productive lives in the least restrictive settings possible. Where we cannot find such charities, we need to do whatever is possible to start them.
And that folks, is the real truth about autism.

I found Mr. Savage’s comments to be extremely offensive and ignorant. Being the mother of a high functioning child on the autism spectrum, he would probably claim my son did not suffer from the disorder. He would probably say he was misdiagnosed. People tell me all the time, I can’t believe he has autism, He doesn’t “LOOK” like a kids with autism. Can anyone tell me what a kid with autism should “LOOK” like? What Mr. Savage fails to see is the 5 years of therapy and endless hours of work and relearning how to parent and training my son how to socilaize that have gone into getting my son to the point where he is not having a melt done several times a day. And by the way, he only has the afore mentioned meltdowns when he is so stressed that he just can not handle the pressure anymore. In Kindergarten school stressed him out so badly that he would vommit every morning. But according to Mr. Savage we should just tell him to suck it up and deal, because he is probably just a brat that doesn’t know how to behave. Mr. Savage needs to be more careful about how he words his comments. There are some very high functioning people on the autism spectrum and just because they can talk and function in a regular classroom does not mean they are not afflicted and do not need the patience and understanding that lower functioning people on the spectrum need. Wake up and get educatd about this condition before making blanket statements about a very real and growing population.

Savage’s words are true; he is not the only expert who talks the same wisdom.
Look where liberal society had taken world during past 40 years. When I feed a dog in my friend’s house with the things dogs were designed for which is eating meat and bones, her kid and his girlfiend told me that I am killing the dog – that the stuff is harmful to it! In their mind, it should be fed by granules from the pet store his girlfriend works in. Supposedly, they are all natural. Never mind that these granules not only last in soaring heat forever but the poor thing was shedding like crazy and eventually got so sick with skin infection that it cost the idiot kid (it is his dog) $460.00 for veterinary treatment. I started to cook the meat with bones for her, feed her with fish, beef and chicken liver, garlic and all the stuff dogs are designed by nature to eat and she stopped shedding her hair, is much healthier, she even barks now!
You should see how 30(!) different doctors in Kaiser diagnosed me with all kinds of diseases when I went critically ill last year! My house looked like a pharmacy with the stuff they forced on me! It took finally doctors in Europe who exercised common sense and who gave me actually their time instead of five minutes here and I actually got better. Doctors here almost killed me and then they decided they will blame me for it and diagnose me as mentally sick! Only after my friend went in and raised hell, they backed off.
So called “healthcare” in U.S. is nothing but big business. But people here in U.S. trust “authority” so much it’s sickening. We live in total police state dictating us everything from A to Z, yet we scream to the world that we are free, free, free!
Michael Savage should be appreciated, not being called an idiot. idiots are those who are ignorant – he is certainly aware of how the big state machine is destroying our lives and health!

I am Liberal and very proud of it. Conservatives are just that – people who believe in the status quo should never change, right or wrong. They believe patriotism should be a security blanket to cover and hide the wrongs of the nation. Progressive Liberalism seeks to bring those wrongs to the surface – to be aired in judgement of the masses. Blind patriotism that isolates America in the face of world opinion openly violates the primise and foundation on which the founding fathers untended. The United States of America is a great nation but they have exalted themselves to believe they have have attained a level of perfection that no other nation should question – thats dangerous and reminiscent of the rise of Nazism. It has been the bane of mighty nations: Power corrupts, abolute power corrupts absolutely. One can hear the this in the rants of people like Savage, Hannity, Limbaugh and others who wish to dumb down the masses – to believe only in the propaganda they spew forth

When you get sick, you go to a doctor. But when that doctor in under the monitary influence of a pharmaceutical industry, you get drugs to treat symptoms, not the cause. The more you go, the more drugs you get. The pharmaceutical industry is in the business of relief, not cures. Well paid lobbist influence Congress to keep in place laws which allow doctors to push mostly experimental drugs to be prescribed that keep the patient coming back for more. Why would they push curitive drugs and therapies that would knock out a lucretive source of income? This insidious practise has extended to even the youngest of our children – finding more marketable niches to push more and more drugs that benefit the medical and drug industry at the expense of the patient who depend on them. This same model is prominent in the petroleum industry.
They refuse to let any promising invention that does not include oil to gain a foot hold. Why would they?….

I remember sitting down as a child and listening to my dad talk about the good ol’ days. Anyone else remember? Maybe you were even a part of those days. Back when you were judged by your ability to work hard, raise a good family, and have a positive influence on society whether it was helping old ladies across the street, helping your neighbor paint their fence, spending time with a youth group such as the local scouts, or a plethora of other things.
Those were the real days, parents disaplined their children, politicians were slightly more honest, people could say what they pleased without fear of being assaulted by one entity or another and people generally speaking functioned normally. Today is another story.
Today Americans are afraid of themselves, their neighbors, their children, their politicians, and damn near everyone else. God forbid (oops, I said god… am I going to be attacked now for religious views?) we offend someone, break some obscure law that either A. we didn’t know about, or B. didn’t realize you could actually criminalize the act in the first place.
Why help my neighbor if I might risk offending them through casual conversation. Why speak my mind if I might be miscontrued as being a bigot at the mension of a woman in any context, a racist at the mension of a nationality in any context, or even people who aren’t a race (Illegals come from everywhere), or just plain incensitive at the mension of damn near anything else.
Why discipline my children? God knows they all watch so much TV these days they can see if mommy and daddy are treating them wrong (in their adolecent minds) that they can call cops, tell neighbors, and everything else. They see on tv that blatently lying is ok to get what you want, even if it hurts someone else.
We’re afraid to talk at work now too! Oh no, a joke has been deemed as sexual harassment, oh no that comment was racist, job security no longer exists since we can be fired for anything. If they can’t find someone willing to take our job after using some poor excuse to fire us in order to avoid being sued, they’ll just outsource the job, saving the company money, and that job will be lost from america permanately.
Oh yes… and the final damnation of American society: Politicians. Don’t get me wrong, there are people of all mindsets be it liberals, lawyers, doctors, politicians, and everyone else that are generally bashed on by those of a conservative standpoint who mean well. Let’s face it though, we’ve become terrified of nearly all of them. We’re terrified of the consequences of electing some, or of not electing others. We choose between the lesser of two evils, instead of the greater of goods.
And the point to all of this? Right in the article. We assume there are things wrong with us, wrong with our children, and wrong with eachother because we think independently once in a while. Our minds stray, we get upset, frustrated, energized, tired, and everything else. But this can’t possibly be normal right? Being afraid is the only thing that could possibly be normal so we must see a psychiatrist. We can’t allow ourselves to solve our own problems, because we might do it different than the status quo. Lets all see psychiatrists, lets all take pills, so that we can be normal.
And yes, there are legitimate people with mental disorders, I have seen them, I have them in my family, I have them in my friend’s. I have worked for them and with them. Many disorders are very real, and seriously affect the lives of those who have them. However, I would venture to say for every person I know with a true disorder, I know at least three more who are on medications for a disorder they don’t actually have, or believe they have a disorder they don’t actually have.
Wake up America. Most of you are perfectly fine people, with perfectly normal lives, each unique in its own way. To those with true disorders, there is plenty of support, and treatment to give you a quality of life nearly equalled to that of a ‘normal’ person.

It’s sad when someone has to follow behind those who have access to national press, radio, television, and explain “what they were trying to say”, “what he meant to say”, “he didn’t mean to imply”. However the good in this is that it has people talking about a very serious disorder that afflicts 1 in every 150 children born today. I have worked in the educational system for nine years and have not seen one misdiagnosis of autism but have seen plenty of kids who would benefit from ADHA medication who’s parents refuse to see they have a problem. Hopefully Savage’s comments will lead people to become more educated about the subject of autism and emotional disorders so that more children can benefit from the appropriate medical interventions.

To the rest of us Michael Savage defenders:
It’s no use reasoning with those who refuse to see any truth or possibility of truth to what Dr. Savage has said. Those who grotesquely twist out of context his words concerning autism and other “disorders” are either trying to silence him or are so intellectually vapid that they should themselves be placed into mental institutions for their own protection.
People like “johnamana,” “democrat,” “Dana,” and “glenna” obviously either have issues thinking for themselves or are so bitter and hateful of dissent that they’re incapable of having civilized discussions with anybody contrary to their own positions (and their abilities to write fully demonstrate that).
Let me summarize again for you people who would rather throw names instead of engaging in intellectual communications: Dr. Savage NEVER denied the existence of autism. He NEVER said ALL parents with children who scream and are silent and such (or however exactly he phrased it) are to blame. If you have an open-enough mind (which liberals always pride themselves with, but they’re some of the biggest closed minds I’ve encountered) and you listen to Dr. Savage’s comments within context and you understand his background, there is NO WAY you could POSSIBLY walk away thinking that he doesn’t have the best interests of children in mind.

There are a lot of children who fall into the 99% figure that Dr. Savage quotes. When you have a child who is completely non-verbal at 2, doesn’t appear to hear anything that is said to them, is completely in their own world you can call that autism. But after 5 1/2 years of intensive therapy and intervention (most of it, by the way, at parent expense, what you have left are the social communication and behavior issues that seem to drive Dr. Savage and others so crazy.
Most parents agonize over the decision to medicate their child and and only go this route as a last-ditch effort to help their children control their behaviors.
My child and many other I know who have been lucky enough to have the intensive therapy for the first few years of their short lives will fall into that 99% category. Would it have been better to give them no therapy at all so that they could now be the “truly autistic” children for whom he has so much sympathy?

He made comments without any consideration of the parents and young adults (who are affected with autism). He says in a nut shell that over diagnosis is about money… What? Say What??!!! What money? Has anyone have a clue as to how little help there is for families with children with disabilities… It costs far more to raise a child with special needs. Also, keep in mind, if I could choose for my child to NOT be affected with autism, I would in a second. No amount of money offered by the state of Michigan will “cure” my son who is affected with autism. I don’t think there is much of an excuse for the remarks made by Mr. Michael Savage. No back peddling here because his excuse really does NOT match up to what he said. But, apology in this family is accepted. Have a great day!

If one does not like what you are hearing, try turning off the radio. Savage is spot on, I have lived with the medical community giving a new diagnosis of my kids and wife for 15 years. Well they are not better for the medicines, we are just broker.
I worry about them when it is time to get out and start working. How will they cope when all they are told is ” We can help you by adding another pill to the mix to fix it.” I really would have a higher oppion of the medical community if they really did fix it. But alas It will never happen. Until each and everyone takes control of there problems (mental and physical) not a damn thing can change in their lives. You should know that in almost every case and every doctor I’ve been to, that isn’t even an option. The meds are for children that are so severe they can’t even function properly. Autistic children tend to have hypersensory issues and in some cases it can be so severe that it is almost painful to them. I understand that Savage had a special needs brother, but that in know way is the same as autism. Yes the testing is subjective, but do you know why? Many of these children are non-verbal, and they have trouble understanding what they are being asked to do. Its a painful process and there aren’t any other ways to do it. It suprises me that such intelligent seeming people are making such uninformed and unintelligent comments. You really think the founding fathers of our country designed free speech so that people can blurt out any nonsense that pops into their head? No it was to be free of fear from your government, to say how you feel; not to make ignorant comments that hurt people. As a parent of a real autistic child, the 1 percentile I guess, those comments hurt. His intent was to try and make himself look smart and informed, when nothing could be farther from the truth.

its pathetic to me to read somones response who clearly don’t have the awareness to consider all that was said and to see it only threw the eyes of someone that has some biasis, like the importance of individual responsability. The real news with most liberal responses is, what is left out. Why there biasis exist is the root to the real crime.

Those of you claiming Liberalism is a mental disorder remind me of medieval times, when anyone suggesting the world was not flat was tortured on the rack or burned at the stake. Why must a person believing and thinking in ways that do not agree with the conclusions of others – be insane. Almost ever great mind in history was first thought to be mad until their challenges were brought to the public forum. Conversely: charatans and scoundrels as the case with Savage, Limbaugh and Hannity, will be exposed in time

It’s pretty sad when you resort to using “Poor Jerome” as a way to defend your idiotic ramblings. (aka make more money)
Personally, I think the DR. part in Dr.Savage is stretching it. It just goes to show that you don’t have to have it all there to be a DR.
Oh, and by the way did you realize that statistically 96.67% of all whiners are Jewish.

Most of you fools obviously have no experience with autism, because if you did you would realize that:
    – Most doctors and psychiatrists have no experience with autism and are reluctant to give that diagnosis.
    – The diagnosis of autism is not “subjective” because there a blood test or CT scan can’t detect it (yet). There are several standardized behavioral tests to determine autism.
    – When a child is diagnosed with autism, it isn’t like checks from the federal government start pouring in. The program that my son attends at a branch of a local hospital system costs $30,000 per year. The State of Ohio covers $20,000 of that and I pay the other $10,000. That is a lot of money for our family and I have to work extra hours to make the money. There are several parents in the program from Michigan, which doesn’t cover any of the cost, that pay the full $30,000. Autism is hardly a racket for parents.
    – Autism is NOT significantly overdiagnosed. Is it misdiagnosed sometimes? Sure. But Savage and his syncophants have not provided any proof that “99%” of autistic kids are misdiagnosed. Savage himself admits that he was engaging in hyperbole. But he hasn’t come out and said how many kids are misdiagnosed. That’s because he has no idea because he knows nothing about autism.
Finally, you should all know that parents of autistic kids are tough as nails, forged by having to fight for every little thing for their children. Savage could not have picked a fight with a tougher, more organized group of folks. Home Depot, Radio Shack and Aflac have already withdrawn advertising. Like it or not, the days that this bully has left on the radio are limited.

I have been listening to Michael Savage for 7 years now. Yes, I can admit he can be an arrogant az from time to time but what he said about autism is completely true!! Everybody wants a quit fix!! They do not want to wait for the child to outgrow his fits or they do not want to take the time to spend with the child to show him, her the right or wrong way to do things. All children are different. Some may learn at an early age that they are not suppose to throw fits, bite, scream, pull hair, etc. Where as some need time, parental nurturing, and some good ole fashion butt spankings!!! For someone to get butt hurt over what he said is ridiculous. I mean he did say 99%. So, your child is one of the 1% he wasn’t talking about. Get over it!! Quit listening to him if you disagree. Don’t try to drag him down because your opionion differs from his. Thats just plain ignorance!!

Let them all move to San Fagsico. They can live in the gay area and have all the fun they want. There won’t be any babies because they can’t reproduce with the same sex. one day they will all die off and we will be ridd of them once and for all.

It’s been said so many times over the years…”the truth hurts” Those on the liberal left are indeed mentally sick. Living in NYC I see first hand the result of socialist thinking. So much freedom is eroding in America on a daily basis that most here are asleep at the wheel of their daily lives. Just listen to Nancy Pilosi and her hard left ilk…..we might as well pull down the stars and stripes and hoist up the hammer and sickle.

Hello I can personally say that a genuine case of autism is truly unmistakably diagnosed. Sometimes autism can actually be caused from accidents for example my friend’s son was taken too the hospital, at a very young age she signed a waver saying she could not sue the hospital if anything went wrong. The child in question was about 4 years of age and was only supposed to be getting shots well, the hospital accidentally and I quote “shot the kid up with mercury” witch left him autistic. Now Michael Savage from Brooklyn is entitled too his opinion as a citizen of this country. Unfortunately so are the liberals does that mean that he’s idiot no. In fact in my opinion autism is fairly new too me but there is a fleet of new disorders flooding an ever more greedy market. So for that 12 year old child I respect Michael Savage and Selywn Duke for there opinions. The liberals calling them names and fools are the idiots for not being able too bring a positive and intelligent enough response too the table. Since when in our great nation have we lost the value of freedom too express our thought in a positive/ and sometimes not so positive way. Taking offense should not be our way of life the party’s taking offense are just angry because two men decided too stand up and not go silently into the night. What gives them right too censor the voice that speaks uncensored with truth and conviction. Autism today adhd tomorrow even in spell check that isn’t even a real word lol

I am the father of a 15 year old child with Asperger’s syndrome. Asperger’s syndrome for the uninitated is what “Rainman” had in the movie. I researched and came up with the criteria for Asperger’s, not from a psychologist, but from neurologists.
Asperger’s comes from a physical problem with the brain, a lack of the corpus collosum.
Here is the relevant and interesting part: Though I know my son has Asperger’s syndrome, the school system he attends refuses to accept this and labels him as….
    autistic.
Why? Because they get funding for autism and dont really have a program for Asperger’s.
Oh, did I mention my late brother truly was autistic?
Also, my daughter’s best friend is on Ritalin, a cousin of my children is on Ritalin, a niece was on Ritalin.
When Savage says 99%, in my opinion, it’s like me or anyone else saying 1000% or some other hyperbole.
I cannot accept the fact as the brother of a mentally retarded man, Savage would be cruel to those truly suffering.
As a father, I am NOT insulted, hurt, or whatever by what Savage said. On the contrary, I know he is looking out for my son.
Why? Because the same school district that refuses to accept Asperger’s syndrome, started talking about drugging my son, in the second grade. My wife and I fortunately told the school system, over our dead bodies.
Unfortunatley, the parents of the cousin, yes same school system, rolled over.

Thats because unlike so many Steve, you actually have a head on your shoulders and use it to think instead of being a narcissitic idiot that gets what he wants via whining or sueing. Thank you for your voice of reason here!
Look I have an older brother with learning disorders, not mentally retarded or autistic, but he was labeled “slow learner” back in the 50’s-60’s. He was a definite hand full for my parents and as a grown up hasn’t been able to do very well with his life (career wise) as a result. We siblings help where we can and he copes with life on his own terms with NO DRUGS! I can honestly say for many of you parents, the future is what you need to be preparing for now. You need to help with learning skills that go beyond teachers and drugs. Cause the reality of these overdiagnosed problems is we will have a future of adults that can’t cope with life and there is no drug or miracle cure for that!! Stop raising a generation of pissy, whiny, narcissits please!! The medical and law fields have done us no justice as of late!! And we are giving the jobs that people like my brother need, to actually make it in life, away to illegals. Lets start seriously thinking about our future here and not just how we can feel good about ourselves! There are many adults in the country that need to grow up!
