Snake and Apple By Selwyn Duke

Ever since the separation-of-church-and-state ruling in 1947, there
has been an ever-intensifying effort to denude our public sphere of
religious symbols and sentiments. The latest attack is a lawsuit to
prevent “In God We Trust” and the Pledge of Allegiance from being
engraved on the newly-built Capitol Visitor Center in Washington, D.C.

Filed by the Freedom from Religion Foundation, the suit claims that
the mere presence of such engravings is an unconstitutional endorsement
of religion. FoxNews.com reports
on the story, telling us that the House and Senate passed resolutions
earlier this month authorizing the engraving “in response to critics
who complained Congress spent $621 million on the new three-story
underground center without paying respect to the nation’s religious
heritage.”

    Selwyn,
You really fired up the crowd with this article didn’t you? For those of you who want to view a fierce debate follow the comments on the main article link. I find it so interesting that Selwyn points out plain and clear in his “checkmate” paragraph the fallacy of all who argue against it, (it being the presence of Christian values and culture in our country). I read all 47 comments (at the time) and so many people cited that paragraph and said it was false because the Bible is a fairy tale. Well hello! This is the whole point. Maybe the bible is a fairy tale. If it is than so is the notion of every value you’re trying to impose on me (multi-culturalism, environmentalism, etc).
I notice that everyone uses a false argument of Christians wanting to take over society and turn this country into a theocracy. This is non-sense..Christians want to instill God’s Law in society by means of constitutional law. However, by the secularists use of the “church and state” argument they are wanting to use legal discrimination to silence the Christian voice. After all, just the like the article says all values are manmade so why are yours better than mine?

    Selwyn,
This one was very good; one of your best. Perhaps you should have saved it for a book. I can tell you, as well as many of the other clear thinkers out there, our efforts are not in vain. This sort of philosophical reason does break through the calluses of the liberal mind. Not all liberals are the devils chauffer (all leftists are though). Many liberals are just naive, lost and confused. Many liberals don’t have the self hate and guilt of their own prosperity that usually drives the leftist mind. They just are a lib because their dad was or because their older union “brothers” are. Awakenings are happening all of the time, and it is articles like this that are helping make it happen. Keep up the good work.

I agree with both Walt and Shaun.
Selwyn, your argumentative skills are unimpeachable.
I would like to add that to be an Atheist is an oxymoron and impossibility. To be an Athiest (literally, without God) is to acknowledge His existence while rejecting the notion. It is the same as me saying that I am ANASCAR. I do not follow NASCAR and I would rather that it would not consume the attention of so many Americans, but my objection to its existence serves to acknowledge its existance and influence.
Furthermore, I wish to add that members and advocates for organiztations such as the Freedom From Religion Foundation should renounce their citizenship and relocate to a nation where their notion of godlessness is public policy; such as Communist China and Communist North Korea. Don’t these overgrown, infantile brats understand that they prosper and benefit from the prayers of those of us that are devout Jews, Christians and Moslems? Of course not, but they do.
The very tenets of our Constitutional Republic are rooted and steeped in Judeo-Christian values and philosophy. In the end, we may be all wet, as they advocate, but please present us with a socio-political success story that supercedes the success of the United States of America. After you have done so, do us a favor and relocate there.
One last thing: Observe the most simple of organisms, say a sponge. Then observe a vastly more complex organism such as a human being. Can you not see the hand of a superior intelligence? Can you not see a design inference and that the designer thereof is of metaphysical superiority?
Of course you can. You do not disbelieve; you deny. Very well, you have this Constitutional right to deny and we can be friends. But for those of you to wish thrust your denial to take precedent over the obvious and to promote your denial to the point that it might supercede the law of the land is insidious, childish and flat out wrong.
One can do much better organizing speaking engagements in Beijing and Pyonyang. Pack your bags.
