1063641_low An apparent Muslim jihadist
strikes again — this time at Texas’ Fort Hood.

By Selwyn Duke

We’ve all heard about yesterday’s
tragedy at Fort Hood military base in Texas. At 1:30 p.m., army psychiatrist Major
Nidal Malik Hasan went on a rampage, targeting fellow soldiers and others
for destruction at the base’s Soldier Readiness Processing Center and the
adjacent Howze Theater. Using two semi-automatic handguns, Hasan claimed 12 lives
and wounded 31 people before being shot multiple times by local police (it
appears the other soldiers weren’t armed). The gunman was then taken into
custody and brought to a local hospital. It’s said his life is not in
danger.

While
there’s no “official” word on Hasan’s motives, it’s not hard to connect the
dots. A man of Jordanian descent and a pious Muslim, the major’s loyalties didn’t
seem to lie with the nation he’d sworn to protect. Instead, he had often expressed
support for Islamic jihadists, once saying that Muslims needed to “rise up”
against the aggressors (presumably the U.S. and the West in general). Expanding
on this, Philip Sherwell at the Telegraph
reports on the testimonials of retired officer and former colleague of Hasan’s
Col. Terry Lee, writing:

A very tragic story. I am awaiting more details before making any solid conclusions about this guy but the first thing that must strike any American is the name and religous affiliation. Some say its wrong to profile(not me) but sometimes the self evident is the best answer. It also seems that this man has some serious mental/spiritual issues. When my deployment order came I, and everyone else I knew, had to come to grips and accept it…you dont go crazy and shoot 50 people without some serious malfunctions.
    Great article BTW

I am sure this guy got a complex from living in a Christian society and being around Christians.
The really sad part of this story is no one had a pistol in their sock…no one was packing??? Israel used to be ripe with this sort of thing back when they had strict gun control, but when they encouraged citizens to carry the problem with crazed gunmen went away…soon to be replaced by suicde belts but at least they only get to do it once.
This is a sad story and I am afraid it will keep happening if we don’t profile. OOOOPS…can I still say that or is there a treaty that forbids.

    Excellent article by Selwyn.
My corner convenience store is owned and run by a North African (from Libya, actually) Moslem. I asked him about this massacre and he said, most sincerely, that this is not what Islam teaches, nor is it what “we” seek. He acknowledged that some of the Koran expresses such things and that the Hadiths (the “writings” or commentary about the Koran) are even more given to violent reprisals. I then asked, “Do you protest such acts in your Mosque?”. His reply was telling.
He compared the subtle intimidation of the radicals among his Mosque-goers with our (white America’s) failure to be honest about race (blacks, to be specific). Just as we feel intimidated to speak out against inner-city violence, misogeny and the “gangsta/hip-hop” culture for fear of being branded as a racist, he and others of his Moslem faith that are clearly moderate (if not Orthodox) do not speak out for fear of sympathizing with Khafirs (infidels).
Mind you, this man is kind and generous. I once helped him identify a thief who had stolen goods from his store and he has made generous offers of compensation that I cannot accept in good conscience. He is actually insulted that I would not accept his remuneration but we agreed to disagree for cultural reasons.
My heart goes out to families of the victims of this devastating tragedy. My most profound question that remains unanswered thus far is, how did this man achieve the rank of Major without anyone noticing his radical and violent intentions?

Philip, did you ever consider he may have made his rank because of his race/religion rather than in spite of them? As our culture runs to be considered tolerant and inclusive, we exacerbate the problem with over-reaction. Do you remember the old SNL skit “Master Thespian?” He was such a great actor he broke through to the counter side; the antithesis of acting. So have we done with inclusion in this nation. We have become so hysterically inclusive and tolerant we have broke through to the counter side; a place where reason does not exist. In absence of reason neither liberty nor culture nor life will long last. We have rejected our most primal and uniquely human gift and we beg to become extinct.

    Great point Walt.
On his show the other day,Michael Savage declared that only an uprising of evangelical Christianity will save this country. He is not a Christian, mind you, but I believe that he is absolutely correct.
