Dear Sir,

In your latest article “Where do we go from here”, you
state:

And will we, as all civilizations eventually do, soon go the
way of ancient Rome? It’s possible. Remember, however, that when Rome fell
there were still people living in her lost lands. They still had to forge
societies. And some did a better job than others.

As a fellow Christian, I viewed the entire article as an
appropriate view of our current society and likely future.

I read your article about Justice Roberts’ decision
regarding Obamacare (a low point in history for the court) where you made the
statement:

(If you’re unusually astute [this does not include Roberts],
you understand that civilizations move through phases, and our current leftist
one won’t last forever.)

In less than three weeks you went from “phases, and our
current leftist one won’t last forever” to basically advising to stockpile and
form local groups for common defense and needs.  That’s a bit of a change
of perspective in such a short period of time.  This change of attitude is
what I would like to see explained a bit further.

Sincerely,

JM

Dear JM,

Thank you for writing and for the kind words.  I’m flattered that you dug
deeply enough into my work to discover what seems like a contradiction, and
yours is a good question.  And it has a good answer.

The answer first involves the fact that there is change beyond that implied by
the very limited left-right model; and, second, the fact that there are both
short and long-term cycles.  A good analogy is climate. Science has
determined that the Earth experiences 100,000 year glacial periods followed by
12,000 year interglacial ones.  Yet within these long-term cycles are
embedded other cycles, such as, I understand, 1500-year periods of warming and
cooling.

Now, let’s say that you’re living during an interglacial period, as we are;
because of this, although it will get warmer for a time, you can know (unless
your name is Al Gore) that it will end and eventually start cooling down
drastically.  Or, to make the metaphor more compelling, imagine that you
were living during the Little Ice Age, and Mr. Freeze rubbed his hands together
gleefully while boasting that his will was being done and that there would be a
victory for winter.  You might say, yes, you’ll prevail…for a
time.  And I will have to buy snowshoes and winter clothing and stockpile
some food, yet your day will end; there are cycles, and just because you don’t
perceive them, Mr. Freeze, doesn’t mean they aren’t real.

Likewise, right now we’re living in a little cultural ice age orchestrated by
the godless people we know as the left, and, being shortsighted, all they see
is the wind blowing their way.  And we have to prepare for this winter of
discontent because it will continue for a while.  Yet, unless we’re living
in the End Times, it won’t go on forever.  Longer-term cycles inform that
the worm will turn, as it always does; although it will take a very long time.
You and I would likely be dead by then.

As to the second part of the answer, note that the following line, “[O]ur
current leftist one won’t last forever,” can be taken in two different
ways.  One implies that the next phase would be a “rightist” age,
but the other helps clear up the confusion.  To wit: there can be another
“leftist” age, one the liberals wouldn’t anticipate.  They have
no idea what they’re sowing.  And, sure, they’ll destroy America, but what
will follow won’t be to their liking.  This is the fate of the useful
idiot.

I hope that clears up the confusion.
