People have long lamented “bystander apathy,” as we make a motto of “See something, say something!” Yet it now appears the powers-that-be are demanding victim apathy.
Of course, couple this with defunding and handcuffing the police, and the population will be held hostage by criminals until people plead for security — and they may accept it even at the expense of liberty.

Selwyn. Just in the last week two well-known commentators used the label “Death Cult” to describe those who foster the kind of behavior that this instance represents. Tucker Carlson and Jordan Peterson. Tucker on his FNC daily show and Peterson on Joe Rogan.
Their aim seems to be not to obliterate (unless by accident) but decimate; i.e, gradually. Volunteers are certainly being welcomed more and more. IIRC you covered some of the earliest of such “volitional” in the Netherlands.
Have you ever considered collecting the many stories you comment on and presented as further evidence how that new old religious adherents have risen to influence and powers needed to cull the herd so to speak? I just don’t recall you ever saying anything like death cult in your work.
