Shortly after Zohran Mamdani’s NYC mayoral victory, I asked in a headline, “In Power, Will Mamdani Be Socialist — or Sly.” Now it appears we may have the answer in an actions-speak-louder-than-words way.
That is, the “democratic socialist” mayor-elect is appointing one far-left radical after another to his administration. Among his picks are a car-hating zealot who wants to build playgrounds in the middle of city streets and an “anti-cop extremist” who has called for ICE abolishment and tarred border policing as “inhumane.”
Now, since “Birds of a feather flock together,” Mamdani’s extremist underlings won’t surprise those acquainted with his past. This is the man, after all, who said in 2021 that his ultimate goal was “seizing the means of production” — aka Communism 101. He also stated during his mayoral victory speech that there’s “no problem too large for government to solve.” (Translation: Government can accomplish anything.) Given this, let’s take a look at who some of his problem solvers will be.
Empty the Prisons
During the Mariel Boatlift (1980), Cuban dictator Fidel Castro emptied out his prisons and sent the convicts to the United States. It made sense because he was an enemy of America bent on damaging her. Now the question is: What’s Janos Marton’s excuse?
Marton is Mamdani’s choice for his Criminal Legal Committee. Oh, he’s not exactly like Castro, though.
Marton only wants to empty the prisons and jails to the tune of 80-plus percent of the inmates.
What could possibly go wrong?
What already has. Remember Lawrence Reed, the miscreant who set a woman ablaze aboard a Chicago train November 17? He’d been arrested 72 times prior and had 15 convictions. It was similar with Decarlos Brown, Jr., who murdered a young Ukrainian woman aboard a Charlotte train August 22. He had 14 arrests and at least three felony convictions on his record.
These men reflect a certain reality: An inordinate amount of crime is committed by a relatively small group of people. Take them off the streets, and crime drops markedly. Apparently, though, Marton wants even more such thugs roaming about, as he expresses in the video below.
Moreover, Marton would ensure there are fewer cops to protect people from these predators, too. That is, while NYC is already 5,000 officers short of its 40,000 target level, he wants shrink the force further. In fact, he has talked about moving toward police “abolition” (video below).
Anti-auto Autocrat
Is the upside of this, though, that you’ll be able to drive without much fear of traffic tickets in NYC? Not if Ben Furnas, Mamdani’s pick for his transition team for transportation, climate, and infrastructure, has his druthers. Because in Furnas’ Gotham, the only way you may be driven in the city is toward insanity. As the New York Post reported Saturday, his agenda includes, among other things,
a bizarre proposal to build playgrounds smack in the middle of city streets that would then be redesigned into cul-de-sacs — a move the group claims will solve the city’s “playground desert problem.”
The plan fails to mention how traffic would be rerouted.
…[Furnas] also wants to create “school streets” by closing streets to traffic near every New York City school.
Oh, the Big Apple only has close to 3,000 schools. And how many places would be left to drive through was not reported. Relevant tweet below.
The Sociology Professor
Returning to Marton, he won’t be alone in attacking the police. Enter Brooklyn College sociology professor Alex Vitale, who’ll be working for Mamdani on “community safety issues.” Vitale, Fox News told us yesterday,
is the author of “The End of Policing,” published in 2017. The book, which opens by explaining that police don’t exist to help citizens, argues for an end to traditional policing for certain criminal activity, including narcotics use, prostitution, patrolling borders and “misbehaving adolescents.” The book also argues that police shouldn’t combat street gangs.
On ending gang units, Vitale argues that they are racist.
Of course, what else?
“Vitale has often called to abolish police on his X account,” Fox later adds. He believes that the “the whole system of policing is racist.”
Oh, policing borders is also out, according to the professor. Why? Take a guess, and here’s a hint:
It starts with an “r,” ends with a “t” and has four letters in-between.
Vitale isn’t shy about promulgating his ideas, either, as the below 2022 tweet evidences.
Calypso Louis’ Girl
Next in the Hall of Shame is one Tamika Mallory, a woman with a somewhat checkered past. As Fox News wrote about her, also yesterday, she is
an ex-Women’s March organizer who resigned over allegations of antisemitism….
Mallory, who has repeatedly advocated for defunding the police and eventually abolishing police altogether, was tapped by Mamdani to help lead his Committee on Public Safety….
Mallory stepped down from The Women’s March in 2019 after facing backlash for her praise of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, a notorious antisemite who compared Jews to termites.
She has repeatedly praised Farrakhan, including repeatedly calling him an “honorable minister” and the “greatest of all time because of what he’s done in black communities.”
Mallory has also been accused (tweet below) of “benefitting off the blood” of blacks shot by police.
And the Rest of the Story….
All told, Mamdani has more than 400 people — “experts” he calls them — on his transition team. A handful more are:
- Dana Rachlin, Community Safety Committee — she’s associated with 2020 “defund” movement failures and has advocated “pro-crime” models that sideline police.
- “Abby” Stein, Health Committee — a man masquerading as a woman, Stein grew up in an Orthodox Hasidic community. He’s now described as a “trans” rabbi and anti-Zionist activist. Well, Mamdani’s got that constituency covered.
- Gustavo Gordillo, Economic and Workforce Development Committee; and Grace Mausser, Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise Committee — they’re both co-chairmen of the Democratic Socialists of America; that is, far-left extremists.
- Jason Klein, Immigrant Justice Committee — Klein “helms the LGBTQ synagogue Congregation Beth Simchat Torah,” relates The Times of Israel.
So apparently, Biden, with his Sam Brinton and “Rachel” Levine appointments, had nothing on Mamdani. The above and many others will, too, be part of 17 committees tasked with implementing Mamdani’s socialist designs.
And what will result? Well, NYC has net negative domestic migration, with 2024 outflows exceeding inflows by 35,000. This amounts to one citizen leaving the Big Apple approximately every nine minutes.
But, hey, it’s also said that left-wing college professors are fleeing the Southern universities that are eschewing wokeness. So maybe, just perhaps, they can move to the Big Apple and help Mamdani show those capitalists how it’s done.
