  • Feminist Folderol: Swedish Parents Refuse to Reveal Sex of Child

A Swedish couple refuses to reveal whether their two-year-old child is a boy or girl, claiming that “gender” is a “social construction.” By Selwyn Duke Sweden has long been known for pristine lakes and forests, long-legged blondes and ultra-safe cars, but it’s now distinguishing itself in another, more dubious, way: as the nation of feminism…

  • The Prejudice of Atheists

By Selwyn Duke Ever since the separation-of-church-and-state ruling in 1947, there has been an ever-intensifying effort to denude our public sphere of religious symbols and sentiments. The latest attack is a lawsuit to prevent “In God We Trust” and the Pledge of Allegiance from being engraved on the newly-built Capitol Visitor Center in Washington, D.C.…

  • Can Obama Spell “Failure”?

By Selwyn Duke There actually was a time when an “e” ended a political career.  Or, at least, the misuse of an “e.”  I refer to that fateful day in 1992 when Vice President Dan Quayle told a 12-year-old schoolboy that “potato” was spelled with an “e” at its end.  While the reality is that…

  • Too Much Media Action for Jackson

By Selwyn Duke It seems as if Michael Jackson has done the impossible. That is, he appears to be getting more media coverage — and more of the favorable variety — in death than Barack Obama does in life. Ever since the notorious entertainer suffered his untimely demise on June 25, the news has inundated…

  • Mark Sanford and the Left’s Romper Room Commentary

By Selwyn Duke There is probably nothing that pleases our libertine left more than a social conservative’s fall from grace.  Just witness the predictable feeding frenzy that ensued when South Carolina governor Mark Sanford confessed to marital infidelity.  Why, so voracious are his critics that a Google search for Sanford’s name in parentheses and the…

  • The Ugly Face behind the Mask of Liberalism

By Selwyn Duke It has been interesting watching the response to the Honduran military’s recent ousting of its nation’s president, Manuel Zelaya.  Barack Obama called the action “not legal” and Hillary Clinton said that the arrest of Zelaya should be condemned.  Most interesting, perhaps, is that taking this position places them shoulder to shoulder with…

  • Sanford’s and Ensign’s Fall from Grace Fuels Immorality Police

The marital infidelity of South Carolina governor Mark Sanford and Nevada senator John Ensign provides yet more ammunition to those who would attack morality. By Selwyn Duke When I placed Governor Mark Sanford's name and the word "hypocrite" into the Google search engine, it yielded 14,700 results. Since he admitted that he had an extra-marital…

  • Putting Hollywood in the Hallowed

By Selwyn Duke First there were “inclusive language” Bibles, which extended a bizarre form of chivalry to feminists with lexical peculiarities such as “Our Mother/Father who art in Heaven.” Now, there is something equally bizarre: a Bible illustrated with pictures of celebrities who supposedly exemplify goodness and compassion. Writes Beliefnet.com: Last year, a Swedish ad…

  • Governments Abroad Moving Right . . . Right, Left, Right . . .

Some journalists are saying that while the left currently holds sway in the United States, it is collapsing in foreign lands. Yet, what is the left? What is the right? Do we really know our right from our left? By Selwyn Duke It has long been observed that the easiest way to be a giant…
