Pelosi
By Selwyn Duke

In a place that truly meets the definition of the term "nation" — that is, one in which the people have a sense of national identity and a shared concern for the perpetuation of their culture  — certain things just won’t be debated.

Like, for instance, the idea that the language of the land should be spoken by all.

Sadly, that’s no longer the kind of country in which we live.   And an illustration of why is currently playing itself out among our esteemed leaders.

The Salvation Army is being sued by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (the first bureaucracy I’d eliminate if I could) because its thrift stores in Boston require their employees to speak English.  Our better politicians sought to remedy this injustice, but the odious Congressional Hispanic Caucus and their lapdog Nancy Pelosi are frustrating their efforts.

John Fund writes about the whole sordid affair:

Should the Salvation Army be able to require its employees to speak
English? You wouldn’t think that’s controversial. But House Speaker
Nancy Pelosi is holding up a $53 billion appropriations bill funding
the FBI, NASA and Justice Department solely to block an attached
amendment, passed by both the Senate and House, that protects the
charity and other employers from federal lawsuits over their
English-only policies.

The U.S. used to welcome immigrants while at the same time encouraging
assimilation. Since 1906, for example, new citizens have had to show
"the ability to read, write and speak ordinary English." A century
later, this preference for assimilation is still overwhelmingly
popular. A new Rasmussen poll finds that 87% of voters think it "very
important" that people speak English in the U.S., with four out of five
Hispanics agreeing. And 77% support the right of employers to have
English-only policies, while only 14% are opposed.

Despite this, Pelosi’s perfidious actions are holding sway.  Paul Weyrich gives us an update:

"The vote [to protect employers from the lawsuits] infuriated the 21 members of the
Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC). After failing to shut the House
down by a vote of 204-184, CHC members suggested they would attempt to
block the appropriations bill."

Weyrich then tells us:

"[CHC] Chairman Joe Baca (D-CA) said last week
that ‘[Pelosi] has agreed and our Caucus is united. Everybody agrees it
was a mistake.’ According to ROLL CALL, he added that he expects the
languageMexican_flag_2
either to be struck in its entirety from the omnibus spending
bill or to be replaced by language drafted by the Mexican-American
Legal Defense and Education Fund."

Isn’t that nice?  The "Mexican-American
Legal Defense and Education Fund" is now formulating policy for the Disunited States of America.

All I can say is that I have two recommendations.  First, we should definitely maintain our current immigration policies; I mean, this country will surely be a better place once the CHC has ballooned from 21-strong to 100-strong.  Hey, if it grows powerful enough, we won’t have to be burdened with this debate at all.  Second, we absolutely must elect more leftists such as Bella Pelosi to office.  Let’s have San Fransisco values for everyone.

Now I’ll transition from the sarcastic to the serious.  The EEOC is an oppressive, intrusive
bureaucracy that has the effect of trumping freedom of association, a right implied in our Constitution.  Moreover, to violate the freedom in this fashion — to attempt to prohibit the people from preserving their culture through their own initiative — is especially damnable.

As far as I’m concerned, Pelosi and her ilk are nothing less than traitors.

    Mr. Duke,
A very disturbing article, to say the least. I, for one, am sick of walking on eggshells in a nation that my family helped found for fear of offending illegal aliens.
I experience the discrimination of being white on a daily basis and have been refused jobs because I don’t speak Spanish. I’m sick of it and want to do something–anything. I imagine many in this nation feel the same but don’t know where to start or what to do.
Do you have the number of this Bill, or some link, that we can voice our objections of Bella Pelosi and her cohorts and get English as the universal language in America? Anything would be a start…
If good men do nothing, we get what we deserve–including government. Keep up the good work. I enjoy your articles.

If Bella Pelosi is bad on immigration, Jorge Bush is running closely behind. That may be because there is generally not a lot of difference between the Democrats and Republicans. We may get upset about language issues and border security, but we are certainly going to get caught taking a siesta if we put our hopes on either party rightly solving the problem. The will is just not there.
And this is in spite of the overwhelming voice of the people demanding a stop to the flood of illegals along with the changes and problems they bring with them. And those are serious problems. And serious changes. Mexico lost a good deal of its territory to the United States in the 1840’s and they seem to want it back. I don’t think that Mexican President Vincent Fox was kidding when he said that Mexico was reclaiming its land without firing a shot.
A good piece of America is beginning to resemble Mexico. There are portions of some American cities that make you think you are actually south of the border, that more and more ceases to exist. I don’t know about you, but I like the border. I want to keep it in place. I want it to be real, to exist as a border.
If you want that as well and are hoping that a new Republican-President or a new Democratic-President is going to make that happen, then you’ve been smoking too much of the stuff the Mexicans are so happily NAFTA-smuggling into the U.S. every day. We need a change alright, but the reality is that the Democrat-Republican power structure is not going to bring it. We need something new in America and that is not Spanish as a dual language.
Mexico has never been America’s closest friend. The passive-threat that Mexico poses to the integrity of America is greater than the active-threat brought by the Islamic world. It is not likely that in the near future we will be speaking Arabic. But the number of Spanish language radio and teleivision stations continues to increase here like the number of Mexican babies in an El Paso hospital. We don’t celebrate Moslem holidays, but in parts of the country, El Dia de la Raza and Cinco de Mayo are real fiestas and crowds pour blood on statues of Christopher Columbus in lieu of pouring blood on us.
Just why is that? It is because those people value and hold in esteem their language, culture and national identity. They will not assimilate and subjugate their native practices to ours, because our traditional political parties- the Democrats and Republicans – think so little of our own that they will not demand it. It is well beyond the time that we Americans should take to the streets and shout to our leaders, in proud English…Viva la Raza!
