Golfweek_noose

Golfweek magazine recently fired its editor, David Seanor, after a
strong negative reaction to its January 19 issue, which featured a
picture of a noose on its cover.  The image related to a story about
embattled golf commentator Kelly Tilghman, whose recent comments
referencing lynching brought her a two-week suspension.

This story started with Golf Channel’s January 4 broadcast of the Mercedes-Benz Championship and some lighthearted banter between Tilghman and fellow commentator Nick Faldo about how young golfers could overcome Tiger Woods.  Alluding to Woods’ near-invincibility, Faldo said that perhaps they had to “gang up” on him; picking up on the humor, Tilghman then quipped, “Lynch him in a back alley.”

If you could somehow have superimposed a comedy club backdrop behind Kelly Tilghman and inserted a few hundred expletives in her commentary, we could have all easily written this off as comedy at the Apollo.
Overreactions like this simply create an environment where we are constantly thinking about the differences between blacks, whites, etc instead of setting those differences aside.

The funny thing is that none of this noose business was ever brought up before Tiger started winning. The fact remains that Tiger is good at what he does! She, and no one else, can stop him with moronic rhetoric such as this. And if you think you can, good luck!
