Virtually all public universities maintain a prohibition against gun
possession on their grounds. But in the wake of the recent campus
shootings, this policy is coming under scrutiny. A chorus of activist
voices, such as an Internet-based group named Students for Concealed
Carry on Campus, is asking authorities to guarantee Second Amendment
rights at public universities. While the activists have a long hill to
climb — only Utah presently allows gun-permit holders to carry their
weapons at such institutions — 12 other states are considering
following Utah’s lead.

The simple rationale behind the movement was expressed by a college student quoted in USA Today.
The paper writes: "’The only way to stop a person with a gun is another
person with a gun,’ says University of Cincinnati sophomore Michael
Flitcraft, 23, a mechanical engieering major who has a license to carry
guns but is prohibited by university rules from bringing one onto the
campus.”

There are good arguments on both sides of the gun control issue. However, on this particular subject there is no argument.
How many hunters would think twice about hunting if the deer were armed and could fire bullets back at them?

Since when did the Second Amendment end on campuses, and why? Why should it be an uphill climb to allow people to defend themselves? But we defend other countries. The Constitution was not designed to be picked apart. But on the other side, I own a handgun, I had to register it. All weapons, ALL should be registered, even hunting rifles. WE can all own weapons but we need to do it responsiblity.

Gun registration is an act in futility. Registered guns do not commit crimes but often they help prevent them. I could certainly insert a conspiracy theory here about how the gov’t will come and take weapons from those that are registered but of course that has no historical track record of occurring.
At the very best gun registration is a means of drumming up votes from the simple minded and past victims of violence. At the very worst a record of those who may have the means to revolt. By no means will registration ever control crime.

Troy, how does gun registration do one bit of good? If you have a criminal record or history of mental problems that disqualifies you from owning a gun you won’t get one. But if you qualify for a gun, how does being registered help? If I’m a nut who qualifies for a gun, am I going to say, oh, yeah, it’s registered so I won’t commit that crime? Walt is right. But gun registration is also just a way for the gov. to raise money. They charge a tax called a registration fee. Besides it just adds a lot of paperwork. Wise up man.
