It probably won’t come as a surprise to many that I’m no fan of Geraldine Ferraro, but, wow, she must be receiving inspiration.  As you may know, she recently opined that Barack Obama would not be enjoying his current success were it not for his race.  And, as many don’t know, she is absolutely correct.

I wrote something relating to this a little while back in a piece titled "The Clintons, Race, and the 50-year-old Calculation."  Here is an excerpt:

For many decades now whites have been inculcated with
multiculturalism and a good dose of self-loathing (ever hear of white
guilt?). Many white children are raised with the idea that the worst
thing one can be is a bigot; in fact, they are taught that even
contemplating the existence of racial differences is a deadly sin (even
when those differences might be real).

Also consider the exaltation of gansta’ culture. Millions of white
youths listen to rap music, and no small number of them parade around
small white-picket-fence towns dressed like gang-bangers. It’s even
said that in certain parts of California it’s no longer "cool" to be
white. Now, to such a mind, what kind of candidate would be more
appealing, a white or black one? This, by the way, partially explains
Obama’s popularity among young voters.

Thus, while bigotry has some place in every community – as do all
sins – in the white one a greater place is occupied by an even greater
sin: Political correctness. There are whites – especially in the ranks
of the Democrats – who will vote for a black man simply because of his skin color. To them it is a matter of practicing what they preach, of electoral activism, of feeling open-minded and tolerant. It does wonders for their self-image.

Moreover, this phenomenon is even more prevalent in the mainstream media.  Have people already forgotten that no one had ever heard of Obama until the media glommed onto him early in the campaign?  They decided to play kingmaker and anoint him, and thereby visited another incompetent leftist upon us.

In fact, our affirmative-action mentality is so obvious that it’s amazing how the truth here eludes so many people.  As to this, I heard Bill O’Reilly and Dick Morris dismiss Ferraro’s assertion, which only proves that they’re completely unfit to hold their positions.  Yet, why such people will deny such an obvious truth is interesting.

Yes, some people have been so inculcated with political correctness that they may not be able to perceive today’s fashionable prejudices.  And, yes, others will just lie, since, as Ferraro’s situation has proven, speaking certain truths can get you in big trouble.  But there is another factor.

Some people lie to themselves.

Some truths are so scary — in that speaking them would threaten career and reputation — that some folks won’t even dare ponder them.  These people won’t give these ideas their day in court in their own minds, as to do so would present them with a dilemma.  Upon realizing the ideas were true, they would either have to speak them and be crucified or refrain from doing so and feel like phonies.  Worse still, if asked what they believed, they would have to lie and, well, be Bill Clinton.  So they simply never sincerely search for the truth on certain issues, for then there’s no danger of finding it.

To be fair, I can at least give such individuals credit for not wanting to be liars, although they don’t realize that lying to yourself is the most perilous practice of all.  As the saying goes (I’m not sure who originated it), "A man who is capable of deceiving only others is not nearly as dangerous as a man who is capable of deceiving himself."

Take note, Bill O’Reilly and Dick Morris.
