By Selwyn Duke

Laura Ingraham was filling in for Bill O’Reilly last night on his cable news show, and one of the segments pertained to an alleged rise in "hate crimes" in 2007.  She had as a guest Brian Levin, a civil rights attorney and Director of the Center for the Study of Hate & Extremism at California State University, San Bernardino.  Despite that title, however, it seems that Counselor Levin is a man who shouldn’t think, because when he does, he does it all wrong.

Levin’s argument is that, get this, talk radio is partially responsible for a rise in crimes against Latinos because it supposedly stokes the fires of anti-immigrant sentiment.  But his thesis tells us less about talk radio’s prejudices than his own.

After all, anytime anyone expresses an opinion and tries to influence society, some who agree with the sentiment will get angry, and some may even lash out.   Yet it’s only those who express politically-incorrect ideas who are accused of fomenting unrest, not those who toe the politically-correct line.  They found a copy of Al Gore’s book Earth in the Balance in the shack of Ted Kaczynski, the Unibomber,  and certain passages had been highlighted.   Yet I heard no one implicate Gore in the man’s crimes.  And there is incessant anti-white propaganda disgorged by academia and the media, yet few connect the dots and blame them for crimes against Caucasians (there’s more black-on-white crime than the reverse).

For Laura Ingraham’s part, she mounted a legality-based defense, pointing out that the Supreme Court has sided with free speech in all such cases.  Yet she missed the 800-pound gorilla in the center of the room.

Levin attributed the rise in hate crime to increased violence between blacks and Latinos, mainly, I take it, in California.  Now, I might point out that since, presumably, this is a two-way street, blacks are being victimized more as well.  But Levin seemed to ignore that; I suppose it didn’t further his talk-radio-kills-immigrants narrative.  But here’s what is even more ridiculous: If the problem is black-on-Latino crime, what has talk radio got to do with it?  Are we to believe that these black youths — this would mainly involve teenagers and 20-somethings — from rough neighborhoods are listening to talk radio?  I grew up in the Bronx, and I never heard the voice of Michael Savage, Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity blasting from boom boxes.  If you have, please let me know.   That simply is not talk radio’s demographic.

Professor Levin’s thesis is stupid on the face of it, and the fact that such people are given air time is a damning indictment of our media.

I caught this interview and Levin was revealed to be nothing more than the head of another quasi-official group seeking to prosecute anyone who does not tow the multicult line.
Once he blamed groups “that use swastikas” for influencing Latino/Black gang violence, his true position was revealed. Remember, always blame Whitey!

I accidentally found myself on your site. As a sociologist I find your site a great reflection of the revisionist history that is propagated in U.S school systems. Blame whitey? Well, I guess 400 years of slavery and another hundred of de-facto wasn’t good enough for some people. In case you don’t understand the implications of this, I will put it a bit more simply. In your parents time people of color were not allowed to enter the same restaruant as you. Your parents brought you up, yes? Then what impact does this have upon a child? What of the severe poverty?
Yes, people that are white, myself included, should be conscious of the impact that this had on society and consider this very deeply when talking about issue. Don’t forget- race and class are not mutually exclusive entities, they are co-dependent.
On what you assume with immigration:
Crime, through almost every single statistic I can find, depends on poverty. Not race. There are immigrants of many colors in this country and a couple generations ago I bet your family immigrated here as well. Even if you are going to assert that immigration and poverty are linked, then what is making these people poor. Could it be rich business owners exploiting their labor? Or could it be the fact that the U.S raped their homeland for bananas petroleum and minerals under the guise of the cold war.
“Oh,” you say, “but that’s not true.” Well, again, you are the reflection of revisionist history. It’s such a strange social phenonmenon to see people like you. Reminds me of… oh, the Iron Curtain, the USSR? I guess I should learn that some people are too scared to learn, to open their eyes and be critical. They are so scared, they need someone else to think for them. Unfortunately, I am not one of those people— and you my friend can continue to be the mouth piece of racism and ignorance while I try inspire people to think for themselves.
May your journey be long and arduous.

Hali, since I’ve been blogging on this site, your statement is the most insightful and factually correct that I’ve seen. The people on this site are some of the most closed-minded, hateful, and racist people outside of the actual klan website. Selwyn Duke is actually wrong about hate crimes, and if anyone is interested, they can go to the justice department’s website and find that hate crimes of whites directed towards blacks still outnumber blacks towards whites. Most people just want to continue to belive that the nonsense that Selwyn writes about is so true, but actually, it’s not only factually incorrect, but just a bunch of lies and propoganda covetted in the conservative flag. Thanks for your post, and even though you discovered this site by accident, I hope this isn’t your last blog.

Hali, I just wasted 15 seconds reading your bizarre warped drivel about whitey vs. blackey and poor oppressed people being exploited for bananas. Just what in the hell does your crap have to do with Selwyn’s article? He was speaking about the PC malaise that has infected our body politic and corrupted educational institutions, of which you are a prime shining example. Dumbing down the curriculum takes on a whole new meaning when someone like you can be classified as a sociologist.
You’re unabashedly projecting that which is utterly true of you and your deranged ilk in academia. You got some pair of balls on ya woman! Maybe they grew down from the bitter chip on your shoulder …
As for you my new pal Democrat, down boy! Don’t encourage her to perpetuate lies and myths, she’s already done enough of that.

    To hali:
Thank you for self-identifying as a sociologist (the only field that breeds left-wing propagandists even more consistently than does psychology). The fact that you obviously think your worthless choice in professions gives you some sort of clout on this topic gave me a laugh.
Clearly you did not so much read Selwyn’s article as you skimmed the first paragraph and immediately pounded out your knee-jerk response. As such, I’ll summarize it for you: A man of weak analytical prowess (a sociology major, perhaps?) names Brian Levin argued on O’Reilly’s show argued that gang violence between young blacks and Latinos is a direct result of so-called “hate speech” on talk radio, despite the fact that the medium’s key demographic is conservative white males over 25. Wow, what an obvious connection!
Speaking of obvious connections, could you please explain the link between black subjugation by whites, which ended almost 150 years ago, and modern-day black-Latino gang violence? It looked like you were going somewhere with that, but then you started implying that conservatives are bigots and hate-mongers and comparing us to the (communistic left-wing) USSR…you know what? Never mind.

Thanks to the other posters for already responding to hali’s rambling post in regards to my “blame Whitey” remark. I was making a point that even when the topic is regarding Latino vs. black violence, “white racism” is somehow tied into it.
It figures someone with such a useless profession would come to the defense of such a useless group. If you think the drivel taught in today’s schools called “history” is revisionist in the interest of conservative interests, I urge you to continue to hide out in the world of academia. The real world might be a little too rough for someone with such an apparent lack of common sense.
And then we get the token liberal “democrat” calling everybody that has a different viewpoint a “racist”, “hater”…yada-yada-yada. We’re all just one donation to the ACLU away from being perfect like you, eh, democrat?

Crime is caused by poverty? Hali, that is a ludicrous statement. I know a lot of people that can easily be classified as living in abject poverty but they aren’t criminals. What crime are you talking about? Theft only? I agree that there is a link between theft and poverty – but it is not an absolute link. Is rape related to poverty? Is prostitution, drug dealing, and drug use tied to poverty? I know a lot of “rich” people that are into these things. Is murder related to poverty? Is racketeering, fraud, and identity theft related to poverty? Crime is a very large subject. Adding “hate” to “crime” does not justify a multiplier. If the penalty is not strong enough for the crime that was committed then get the law changed and increase the penalty. Just because you add a multiplier to a crime based on skin color then you are demanding that justice no longer be blind – and then justice is no longer equal. I know our justice system isn’t perfect but name 1 that is better. Yes, I have heard the argument that our justice system is unfair because more blacks are in our penal system than whites. This statement implies that just as much crime is committed by whites as blacks but the police only catch the black criminals. Be very careful before you claim this idiocy as truth. Are you saying that every black cop that arrests another black for a crime is a racists against blacks? You can’t discount the fact that we have black cops that arrest blacks committing crimes. Are these arrests justified because the arresting officer was black?
Do you honestly believe that every poor person in this country is poor because some rich person exploited them and forced them to be poor? I find that poor people are poor because they don’t have any skills that allow them to command a decent paying job or enough entrepreneurial spirit to work for themselves. Maybe they don’t have enough self control to not spend every dollar they get in their hand so they spend themselves into poverty. Addictions can make someone poor as well.
There are many poor people in this country that are decent hard working people. They pay their taxes, they vote, they serve their community, and they are patriotic citizens. When I hear obtuse statements saying that people are criminals because they are poor – I get upset. This is an insult to poor people.
Criminals are lazy cowards and bullies on society. They are parasites and should be removed. Crime and the rehabilitation of the criminal is a spiritual issue – not a result of the social or economic status of the individual.

Based on your handle, I believe it’s safe to say that you were born male, and it doesn’t matter how much you “change,” you’re still a male. What’s the matter? Did you become so jealous of women that you wanted to become one? I have nothing against gays because we are all people, but there is something heavily wrong with the transgendered. Even though you may be confused on other things, don’t misconstrue the fact that this page has nothing to do with homosexuality and the such, and if you want to discuss that, I suggest you go to either that page, or talk to your equally confused partner because you are not and never will be on my level.
