It was quite a while ago that the sun set on the British Empire, and now it may be setting on British civilization as well.  Writes TimesOnline.co.uk:

ISLAMIC law has been officially adopted in Britain, with sharia courts given
powers to rule on Muslim civil cases.

The government has quietly sanctioned the powers for sharia judges to rule on
cases ranging from divorce and financial disputes to those involving
domestic violence.

Rulings issued by a network of five sharia courts are enforceable with the
full power of the judicial system, through the county courts or High Court.

Yes, I’m sure the U.K. government wanted to sanction the powers for sharia judges very "quietly."  What politician wants to advertise that he is driving another stake through the heart of the nation he has an obligation to protect?

In a very sad, pathetic way, Britain is the poster child for the decline of the West.  She once was a proud colonial power, with holdings in the four corners of the Earth.  She was a more civilized Roman Empire, the superpower that could simultaneously fight different wars on different fronts and usually prevail.  And while the U.S. supplanted her as world’s number one quite a while ago, she epitomizes the West’s fall in a way we never could.  For so long she was the standard bearer for Western civilization, influencing the rest of the world with her culture.  We do that, too, of course, but it should be noted that were it not England, there would be no United States.  Our nation was founded by men of British descent.  We speak English.  (At least for now.) 

Yet, Britain has, in less than a century, transitioned from cultural chauvinism to cultural ennui.  It’s no longer a question of whether Britons should govern the world; the pattern that civilizations inevitably follow has rendered that question moot.  The question now is whether they will govern themselves. 

Like us, England has lost its sense of itself.  Gone are the days when Britons might have argued about whether it was right to impose their culture on other nations; now they argue about whether it should be preserved within their own.  But unlike us, they can’t even use the "we’re a nation of immigrants" pretext as a justification.  They just seem content to become a nation of immigrants, even if it ultimately means native Britons will become emigrants. 

There are exceptions, of course.  Many Englishmen are very upset about the diminution of their culture.  Yet, too many among them are nattering, noodling statists who worship at the altar of multiculturalism.  At best oblivious to the destruction of their traditions and at worst antagonistic toward them, they occupy themselves conjuring up new laws and regulations in fulfillment of their mandate to socially engineer England into Orwellville.  Patriotic, sane Britons call these people "jobsworths." 

This is why the most outrageous examples of leftist lunacy have come out of the U.K.  There was the story about how "councils" (local governments) want to convince fish and chips restaurants to use salt shakers with only 5 holes as opposed to conventional ones with 17 holes.  Then there were the educators who warned that toddlers who say "yuck" in response to foreign foods may be exhibiting early signs of racism.  And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

So, while notice has been served that Islamic culture is poised to dominate England, no one says yuck.  As for Sharia courts, isn’t a nation supposed to be one nation?  What encourages the Balkanization of a land more than enshrining cultural differences in law?  A people should strive to make its legal system a reflection of Truth as much as possible, and all and sundry should abide by it. 

The Islamists’ ambitions don’t end with Sharia courts for Moslems who agree to have cases thus adjudicated.  They have made no secret of their desire for global domination, and Eurabia is slowly being forged.  As Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi said in 2006:

"We have 50 million Muslims in Europe.  There are signs
that Allah will grant Islam victory in Europe – without swords, without
guns, without conquests.  The 50 million Muslims of Europe will turn it
into a Muslim continent within a few decades."               

Britannia used to rule the waves.  Soon, waves of foreigners may be ruling her.
