By Selwyn Duke

Sometimes it’s hard to know if mainstream-media nonsense is the result of deceit (motivated by a desire to either draw readers or manipulate them) or just plain stupidity, but it’s often both.  Such a case is the "surprise" registered by some in the media over Colin Powell’s endorsement of Barack Obama.  Yeah, sure, it’s a real shocker when one leftist supports another.

I’ve never thought much of Powell, as I understood he was overrated.  In fact, he’s really much like Obama himself, in that his is a triumph of image over substance.

Powell is a war hero, and, like Obama, fits the politically-correct profile of a modern American leader, as he is non-white.  And his pulled-himself-up-by-the-bootstraps story and the fact that he’s somewhat intelligent and articulate helps as well.

Yet, how many of his fans knew or even cared about his politics?  They had no idea that he actually once said (this is close to verbatim), "A family can include more than two genders," alluding to the idea that your "gender" (a misused word that shouldn’t be applied to people, only words) can be whatever you want it to be.  What a silly man.

And his rationale for endorsing The One is equally silly.  Among other things, he called Obama a "transformational figure," proving that he shares with the senator a penchant for empty rhetoric, too.  To "transform" means to "change"; thus, he was simply parroting Obama’s change rhetoric using a different word.  What a silly man.

So we need to ask the same question of Powell we would of Obama: What will we be changed into?  What do you mean, "transformational figure"?  Hitler, Mussolini, Napoleon, Pol Pot, Saddam Hussein and Mao Tse-tung were transformational figures.  Without specificity, it means nothing except that the person inspires some kind of change, which, mind you, isn’t by definition good; it’s just by definition "change."  It can, has often been in history and will often be a bad thing.  A very bad thing.

To be quite frank, Powell’s complete lack of discernment makes me wonder about his talents as a general as well.  Someone who is out of touch with reality often brings that skewed world view into whatever he does; as one of my friends put it, "Judgment is judgment, no matter what it’s applied to."

Having said that, everyone has his gifts.  The very liberal Warren Buffet is a financial maven and Albert Einstein was, well, no Einstein when it came to politics.  Nevertheless, it has to give a wise person pause for thought.

Regardless, Colin Powell is a silly man.  And even sillier are those who still sing his praises.

He was no “Einstein” when it came to science either.

I’m sick and tired of the misuse of the term liberal and the ridiculous notion that any one who siasagrees in any way with the conservative agenda is automatically labeled as being a “socialist”,”marxist” or “communist”. And I’m sick and tired of the demonization of any politician or public figure who disagrees with conservatives as “Liberal”. I’m a liberal and proud of it! I am no marxist or communist. I don’t believe in these things any more than you do.
But I’m just as opposed to right-wing tyranny as left-wing tyranny.
Just because you believe in the government doing more to help the poor out of their plight, and those who aren’t poor but down on their luck, are pro-choice,pro gay rights, opposed to the death penalty and for REASONABLE gun control, not making all guns illegal and confiscating them from everybody etc,and are opposed to arbitrary censorship of any kind, does not make you a socialist, marxist or communist.
I’m fed up with all this conservative garbage, and the demonizazion and rampant lies about Obama.

Mr. Berger, I’m fed up with the lies about Obama too. Like the lies about him not being a socialist, not being anti American, having respect for 2nd amendment rights, etc etc etc. YOU might not be a socialist but people like Obama certainly are. Also, I’ve been reading Duke for a while, and you do know that he’s made it clear he’s not a conservative. Don’t you? Nah, you probably don’t read but just come here to complain.

To add to the resume, Obama is a self professed pretender. 20 years sitting in Rev. Wright’s church and never listened. Pick one of the two Obama is a pretender or a racist. Wright is certainly a racist.
If I had one question to ask Obama it would be…Do you consider the god of Muhamed to be the same God as the God of Mathew Mark Luke and John?

    John,
If not conservative, how would you label Mr. Duke? I’m not trying to trick you into anything. I just would like to know what you think.
    Respectfully…

    John,
Please don’t be so hard on Mr. Berger. It’s nice to see an alternate view posted here on Brother Selwyn’s Fascist Lonely Hearts Club Page.

    Henry,
You use the term Facist as if you know what it means. Please enligten us. This is a typical liberal arguement, if you have none throw words around like neo-con and facist.

Luke, Duke wrote a very big article once on the problem with he conservative label. He made it very clear that he’s NOT a conservative. He said he’s a revolutionary. Remember what they say – you have two ears but only one mouth. Listen twice as much as you talk. I think you should read more and criticize less. You might learn something.

    John,
You’re reading too much into the question. I fully agree with you and commend your candor. I just wanted to know if you were clear on where Mr. Duke stands and what his agenda is. Anyone who reads his work should have that understanding.
    Thank you,

Questioning Mr. Powell’s conservatism and character would never have been an issue had he endorsed McCain, even though he clearly is a conservative who has been very successful in conservative administrations. He disagreed with the invasion of Iraq and attempted to warn W. of the dire consequences of doing such a thing without the backing of some powerful U.N. allies. He left the administration in a respectable manner, and sat out of politics for a while. Mr. Powell has never been associated with a liberal agenda, and just because he is voting for Obama still doesn’t mean that he’s any less conservative. The wonderful thing about America is that anything within reason is possible, and that sometimes when people disagree, they can actually come to some common ground and find more solutions than being divisive and bullheaded. Perhaps if Obama wins and Mr. Powell serves in his administration, he will bring to it a level of conservatism that isn’t bordering on fringe ideology that is detrimental to the country and the rest of the world. Had it been strictly about race, Mr. Powell would have endorsed Obama publicly at the first sight of him, not waited until a month before the election. And speaking of socialism, the Republicans have argued the case for deregulation and smaller government for a while now, and now we all see that when capitalism isn’t checked by a higher form, the economy will experience the same sort of meltdown that we have seen for the past few years. Now, they overwhelmingly support re-regulating everything and expanding our government because they see that their friends can’t be trusted, all the while attacking pork spending for stupidness like Nascar and the like to the bill, making the Republicans some of the most socialist people we’ve seen in recent years. For the first time in American history, most people aren’t falling for the okie-doke, but looking around them and doing their research in order to make an informed and educated decision about who should run this country. After 8 years of Bush, it’s about time.
