It’s no secret to the informed that statists are using the current financial crisis as a pretext to increase the power and scope of government.  Yet, the bold-faced lies shameless politicians and pundits will tell in the service of this cause are striking.  And one of them concerns the fanciful notion that we have a laissez-faire economy.

There are many propagandists and useful idiots who characterize it as such, and George Reisman speaks about this at his blog.  Citing numerous statements spreading the laissez-faire lie and then commenting on the matter, he writes:

‘The mortgage crisis is laissez-faire gone
wrong.’

‘Sarkozy [Nicolas Sarkozy, the President of France] said ‘laissez-faire’
economics, `self-regulation’ and the view that `the all-powerful market’ always
knows best are finished.’

‘`America’s laissez-faire ideology, as practiced during the subprime crisis,
was as simplistic as it was dangerous,’ chipped in Peer Steinbrück, the German
finance minister.’

‘Paulson brings laissez-faire approach on financial crisis….’

‘It’s au revoir to the days of laissez faire.’

. . . The mentality displayed in these statements is
so completely and utterly at odds with the actual meaning of laissez faire that
it would be capable of describing the economic policy of the old Soviet Union
as one of laissez faire in its last decades. By its logic, that is how it would
have to describe the policy of Brezhnev and his successors of allowing workers
on collective farms to cultivate plots of land of up to one acre in size on
their own account and sell the produce in farmers’ markets in Soviet cities.
According to the logic of the media, that too would be ‘laissez faire’—at least
compared to the time of Stalin.

Laissez-faire capitalism has a definite meaning, which is totally ignored,
contradicted, and downright defiled by such statements as those quoted above.
Laissez-faire capitalism is a politico-economic system based on private
ownership of the means of production and in which the powers of the state are
limited to the protection of the individual’s rights against the initiation of
physical force.

The only question we must ask about the foolish disgraces to journalism and politics who utter such nonsense is if they’re ignorant, liars, or ignorant liars.  I learned the meaning of "laissez-faire" back in high school, and it’s not a difficult concept to understand.  Of course, when you want to move a civilization on the left further left, you have to portray it as too far right.  And with these people at the helm, left we will be in the dustbin of history.

Despicable creatures.

I would encourage you all to read the full George Reisman piece!
It is quite obvious those who so wrongfully use the term, laissez-faire are those who will with a straight face defend the complexity of the meaning of is. Unfortunately, the Reisman piece will probably only be read by a few and the leftist “laissez-faire” propaganda has probably hit most universities and perhaps high schools already. This incident of unbridled intellectual dishonesty is merely a symptom of the true sickness. It is merely a bump on the skin of a small pox victim. The true illness which WILL be fatal if not treated is the monopoly on “intellect” held by the left. Our universities are a plague of mutual admiration societies with tenured puppet masters. This inbred group of “thinkers” in science, philosophy, and economics is akin to the early Papacy and the Catholic Church they so despise and use as fodder to trash the church of today.
Global warming…Fact based upon consensus no further evidence accepted! Debate over!
Darwin origin of species…Fact based upon consensus no further evidence accepted! Debate over!
Marxism is mankind’s best hope…fact based upon consensus despite practical failure of application. External interference, study compromised! Debate over!
Is the control of “intellect” a business? Of course it is a big, big, business. Is closing the doors on a matter based, not on evidence, but upon consensus not collusion? Are they not in practice fixing the market? Do they not see; they are which they despise.

Laissez-faire (Pratice – “They will rob you.”)
‘Sarkozy [Nicolas Sarkozy, the President of France] said ‘laissez-faire’ economics, self-regulation’ and the view thatthe all-powerful market’ always knows best are finished.’
GREAT…IF ONLY TRUE! IF ONLY THAT CANCEROUS MOLE OF AN IDEA WOULD ONCE AND FOR ALL JUST DIE!

Right-wing authoritarianism (RWA) is a personality and ideological variable studied in political, social, and personality psychology. It is defined by three attitudinal and behavioral clusters which correlate together:
    1. Authoritarian submission — a high degree of submissiveness to the authorities who are perceived to be established and legitimate in the society in which one lives.
    2. Authoritarian aggression — a general aggressiveness directed against deviants, outgroups, and other people that are perceived to be targets according to established authorities.
    3. Conventionalism — a high degree of adherence to the traditions and social norms that are perceived to be endorsed by society and its established authorities.
The terminology of authoritarianism, right-wing authoritarianism, and authoritarian personality tend to be used interchangeably by psychologists, though inclusion of the term “personality” may indicate a psychodynamic interpretation consistent with the original formulation of the theory.

Thank you for the PSP, or pop, psychology. Your revered Masters of mental evaluation present no less of an authoritarian threat than cops and County supervisors. At least I can argue with politicians and the D.A., but trying to argue with the intelligencia that regularly reduces average Americans into a group of beer drinking, Bible-thumping, Bonanza-watching boneheads is like arguing with a cat that’s afraid of its own reflection. You could offer to remove the mirror, but the cat wouldn’t understand….

Tieff – It’s just a definition. And it fits the general conservative mindset. And come on now, the average American isn’t sitting around reading Schopenhauer and Nietzsche. He’s sitting in front of the TV watching some moronic program and drinking beer. And on Sunday he’s sitting in his pew watching another moronic program. All that doesn’t mean he’s stupid, after all he elected Obama.

Yep. It’s a pretty good definition, I guess. But how could it be any better than the definition of the Left?
    :
Dictatorship-Obsessed Progressive Elitists (DOPE)s can be lumped together as political, social, and personality ideologues who exhibit attitudinal and behavioral clusters which correlate together:
    1. Dictatorship adulation – a high degree of adulation for strong, autocratic authority that is perceived to be established and legitimate in a society other than one’s own.
    2. Narcissistic appeasement – An obsessive acceptance of deviants and criminals to either assuage one’s guilt or to encourage positive perception from outgroups in order to bolster one’s self-esteem.
    3. Progressivism – a high degree of disrespect for traditions and social norms that are perceived to be illegitimately established by society and endorsed by hired or elected authorities.
The terminology of progressive elitist, left-wing elitist, Liberalism, Socialism, Communism, and just about every other radical ‘ism’ tend to be used interchangeably by a free and enlightened electorate, though inclusion of the term “elitist” may indicate a revulsion for the pseudo-academic disparagement of the principles of Liberty and common sense.
