Baby in Womb By Selwyn Duke

What a society talks about — and what it fails to — both speak
volumes about it. And lately, the news has been replete with stories
about the Obama’s new canine acquisition, a Portuguese water dog the
first family has fittingly named Bo. Yet while the little curly-haired
purebred is creating a tempest in a teapot — because Barack Obama said
during the campaign that he intended to get a “rescued” dog, such as
one from a shelter — few talk about a type of rescue to which Obama
won’t even pay lip service.

Of course, it certainly is fashionable to lament the plight of
abandoned animals, and for sure, no humane person wants to see any of
God’s creatures suffer needlessly. Yet, shouldn’t this sublime
compassion extend to His children as well? I speak of abortion.

This is typical of the hypocrisy of those who oppose abortion.
They want to deny women reproductive choice and turn them into baby-making machines. They scream hysterically about the “right to life” yet support and vote for presidents and other politicians who consistently gut and eliminate programs to help the poor so that poor mothers could provide their children with decent food, shelter, clothing, education and medical care. Yes, the unborn have rights. That is,until they’re born. After, that you’re on your own kid.
And many also want to make contraception illegal. How can any one be so stupefyingly dense? This would only INCREASE the numbers of abortions greatly and create a black market in contraceptives.
    These people aren’t”Pro-life”. They’re anit-choice and anti-abortion.
Don’t they realize that abortion rates are much higher in poor countries where they are illegal than where abortion is permitted?
Let’s face it; wpmen will seek and obtain abortions whether they are legal or not;you can’t escape or ger around this fact. Making abortion illegal will only make a bad situation far worse.
And how the heck would the US government inforce the law if abortion became illegal again in America? There is absolutely no way to do this.
No country can,or ever has. Brazil is the world’s largest Catholic nation, and does not officially allow abortion.Yet every year, more abortions happen there than in the US. The Brazilian government doesn’t even pretend to enforce the law.It can’t.
Do we want to return to the bad old days in America where women routinely went to un=safe back alley abortionists, while wealthy women easily arranged them with their doctors?
Do you think there would have been no abortions in this country without Roe v Wade all these years? How can any one be so naive?
WE have enough difficulty providing for all the poor children who HAVR been born today. We can’t afford the catastrophe of making abortion illegal again. And hypocritical republicans have failed to help the poor and decrease poverty, yet they insist on forcing women to bear children against their will. Their hypocrisy knows no bounds.

    Robert,
Again with the same leftist talking points?
You say, “These people aren’t “Pro-life”. They’re anit-choice and anti-abortion.” Yes, I am pro life and anti-abortion but not anti-choice. You have a choice to breed or not to breed. You have a choice of pills diaphragms, sprays, gels and condoms of every imaginable color and texture. There are plenty of choices I find acceptable; grinding up a baby and vacuuming it out is not one. I was a baby once, yet I lacked the skills to communicate, now that I have my choice I am glad my mother was not a selfish leftist. Bringing me into the world was the last thing she needed, she was broke and my dad was in Viet Nam. I’m glad she chose life.
Who, of consequence, wants to make contraception illegal? When a bill even makes it to committee I will take that one serious.
Your last paragraph is quite lame. We have enough poor kids already? You make it sound like we are cattle living on a feedlot with just enough hay in the barn for the winter. Yes, population control is a huge concern…in an unproductive socialist state. In a free market system like America was and will be again, not only is each child precious, they are also an asset to the whole. Perhaps it concerns you that hundreds of thousands of Republicans are in line to adopt that “unwanted” child you wish to euthanize.
Why can’t the “choice” be made pre-conception?
Murder (aborting) should never be the remedy for poor planning. We are not animals! We think, we reason, we look toward tomorrow we built a rocket that went to the moon 40 years ago…can we not control out urges long enough to put on a rubber or obtain completely? I think we can; mankind has not regressed so far yet.
I am pro choice…murder is not a choice; it is a felony.
PS- I also find it quite odd that more than 50% of people oppose such animal “eat your young” instincts in humans, yet we all must fund such inhumanity via our taxes. May God forgive me for paying my taxes.

    Walt,
You pretty much hit it on the head…thanks for the reply. Just to add a little…
“They want to deny women reproductive choice and turn them into baby-making machines”
Who? Don’t women(and men) decide to procreate when they engage in intercourse? If they choose not to, are there not contraceptives available?
“They scream hysterically about the “right to life” yet support and vote for presidents and other politicians who consistently gut and eliminate programs to help the poor so that poor mothers could provide their children with decent food, shelter, clothing, education and medical care”
The real argument here is that private individuals take care of their own , and make better use of tax dollars which wouldnt be spent, more efficiently than a state bureaucracy. Most people cringe at seeing hungry kids on the street. With that being said, here comes the question from Mr. Friedman, that was posted on Duke’s site earlier, Which societies have taken better care of the poor? Capitalist countries or socialists countries?
“And many also want to make contraception illegal”
Again, who? One cranky old baptist preacher! Like the OP said I’ll believe it when I see it in legislation.
As far as your argument saying that people will do it anyway, Well, I agree with you. There will always be sin. However, I would never condone it or give it state approval. There will always be murder and theft! Better yet, there will always be illegal drug use! Why not legalize all drugs so we elliminate most drug violence and increase our GDP to boot! Why not legalize prostitution? The possibilities are endless. Murder is murder!
I thank you for posting Robert and I encourage you to continue. Whenever I read your arguments it allows me to see the strength in my own free of charge. God Bless!

Your phony arguments against abortion show how totally out of touch you are with social and economic realities today. You expect ALL pregnant women to give birth whether or not they have the means to take care of those children. Many do not. You think it’s a good idea to bring poor, unwanted children into the world? WEll, you are pathetically deluded.
This does nothing but increase poverty, unemployment and crime. And it perpetuates and endless vicious cycle of those things. Unless the government takes serious action to help the poor, see to it that poor children get decent nutrition and education, and a chance for a better life, there will be more and more dropouts, leading to more poor, unwanted children being born, more abortions, more crime, and more unemployment.
You think the provate sector and charities can provide for all those in need, and that the government has no business helping the poor, and those not originally poor but down on their luck? Think again.
The conservative social and economic policies just don’t work. They don’t decrease poverty, create conditions which will prevent unwanted pregnancies, and provide for poor, unwanted children. And then they have the nerve to blame liberal politicians for the mess we’re in.
