Financial Crisis By Selwyn Duke

California's budget woes are the result of gross fiscal
irresponsibility. And at this point there is only one realistic cure:
bankruptcy.

There is a beauty in bankruptcy. Strange words, I know, but it's
true. As an example, there is the story of an old friend of my
father's, a man who at one point in his life was a compulsive gambler.
Oh, he was a heck of a nice fellow, but a slave to his vice. He used
credit to fund his rolls of the dice and he spent and spent and spent
until there was nothing left to spend. Then, awash in insurmountable
debt, he finally had to declare bankruptcy.

Would you believe that they are now saying that the bankrupt CA is the fault of the voters?
    Check this out:
California voters exercise their power — and that’s the problem
I think this news of voter revolt and CA bankruptcy is one of the items that drove down the stock market yesterday frankly. Though I don’t hear anyone else mentioning it. You know investors are thinking in the back of their minds, “Oh crud, now the FED is going to bail out California too. What’s next?” Top that off with a host of foreign countries doing what they can to get out of the dollar and you can say good buy greenback.
Probably explains what happened to gold today. I just check the 24hour graph on the widget I use, ExactPrice, to track the precious metals and that’s a pretty steep climb yesterday.
Looks like people are looking to hedge against a dollar that’s looking more like a zombie at this point.

    Dear Selwyn:
As a Californian, I take exception to your characterization of California voters as irresponsible. Many, if not most of us are not. Prop 13, Prop 187 and Prop 8 overwhelmingly prove this point.
The problem that we have is one that the rest of our nation will soon face: That your votes will be stolen by corrupt judges in filthy and stinking black robes. California was, if I am not mistaken, the first state with a DOMA. We voted overwhelmingy to deny social services to illegal immigrants. California routinely elects Republican Governors (George Dukemejian, Pete Wilson, Arnold Schwartzenegger) who ultimately betray their constituencies.
The problem that California faces is portentious to what is coming for the rest of you. We have a small, yet loud-mouthed and potentially violent activist class that is well-financed and has time on its hands that its productive ciizens cannot compete with. Stand up to them and they will bomb your office or construction trailer. Dump sand into the fuel tanks of your heavy equipment. Strip naked and chain themselves to the doors of military recruitment offices.
This is a very small but an even more effective percentage of our population. They are the lunatic class that has strangled Sacramento.
Just this past Tuesday, the few of us who took the time to vote on more taxpayer subsidy of governmental failure overwhelmingly said “No”. This will result in inevitable budget cuts as the state struggles to maintain solvency. Sadly, these cuts will come in the form of reduction in the low-hanging fruit of our most vital resources: Police protection, fire-fighters and our prisons.
The Marxist and sissy causes of, as you have eluded, benefits to criminal invaders (my more accurate term for the euphemism of illegal immigrants) and environmental Marxism are golden calves that will not be defiled by responsiblle governance.
A popular radio ad in the Golden State proclaims, “As California goes, so goes the rest of the nation”. God forbid.

Good points Philip, you said,” Sadly, these cuts will come in the form of reduction in the low-hanging fruit of our most vital resources: Police protection, fire-fighters and our prisons.”
This is typical government extortion. There are plenty of other areas to cut but they always threaten to let out the criminals and cut the cops and firemen. How about cutting the arts, elective courses and non-self funding extra curricular activities in the education system…how about disallowing sex reassignment to prisoners and government workers. California squanders just about as much as their deficit on BS programs…not to mention the illegal alien population expenses. Oh I forgot the dems need those votes so they can keep the help manned with drunken sailors.
California is a giant steamer ship capable of sustaining any storm; alas the sailors burn the wood from the hull to power the engines.
    Will Obama Nationalize California?

    Walt,
You hit the nail on the head by mentioning the “illegal alien population expenses”. However, I reiterate that the term “illegal alien” is a euphemism for criminal invader.
Gov. Scwartzenegger can balance the state budget and set this gorgeous state on the path of fiscal solvency by simply putting an end to public beneifts to such criminals. He could easily enforce our borders with the National Guard and place a peace officer at the door of every emergency room. He could also dissolve the agencies that promote the LGBT agenda and the agencies linked to Enviro-Marxism by Executive Order.
Unfortunately, it appears that his testicles have shrunken to the size of bird seeds from his prior abuse of steroids (not to mention the fact that he is married to the daughter of the Socialist-Elite Kennedy family).
I hope against hope that one of two candidates might step forward in the next gubernatorial race: 1. Tom McClintock, a fiscal hawk with common-sense who is now a US Representative or 2. Bill Simon, who led the charge to recall the limp-wristed and disgraceful Gray Davis but was steamrolled by many Californians’ obsession with celebrity fantasy. I send a plea out to former Rep. Duncan Hunter, Dana Rohrabacker and Darryl Issa to step forward as well. Anything to spare us from the monstrosity of choosing between the lunatic psychopaths that are Gerry “Moonbeam” Brown and Gavin “Any Twosome” Newsom.
California is not as whacked-out as the Holywood perverts and MSM deviants lead you to believe.
