Back to School Duncecap The only thing worse than what college students are not learning is what they are learning.

By Selwyn Duke

It is said that our educators are preparing the young for the future, and this may very well be true. That is, if the movie Idiocracy
— which portrays a dystopian future America in which sheer stupidity is
the norm — is prophetic. Case in point: the state of today's higher
education.

Just consider two recent articles on the subject. One is Professor Walter Williams' piece "What Will They Learn?" about what kids aren't learning, and the other is a FoxNews.com piece
"Oddball 101: The 11 Wackiest College Courses of Fall 2009," about what
they are learning. Now, hold on to the edge of your seat, because this
trip is through the looking glass, class.

On Occidental College’s course that is named “Stupid”: Isn’t this the first college that one Barry Sotoero attended? Perhaps his records there are sealed because he failed the course.

It’s very unfortunate but very true. While the university I currently attend doesn’t offer us any “enlightened” courses like the one’s listed, I have been dissapointed at the quality of what 4 years and 35,000 in debt have done for me. If anything, too many kids have the attitude that college is only there to open the door to a cushy high paying desk job. Here is an example: I just finished my last pre-requisite course which was physical science. This was a hard challenging class that I thoroughly enjoyed. However, nearly everyone in our class complained about it’s difficulty. One girl went as far to say ‘How is this realated to be being an insurance salesman’. Overall, I am not very encouraged by the state of our education.

WHO THINKS PHILIP FRANCE WENT TO COLLEGE?
    1. Yes?
    2. No?
    3. N/A (He’s an idiot either way?)
