   The book “A Conflict of Visions” by Thomas Sowell comes to mind when reading this article. In this book Sowell compares the constrained vision with the unconstrained vision. In regards to equality he argues that both visions share the desire for equality but see different means of going about it.
   For example, the constrained vision would say all races are equal because all races have both equal access to the law and to an opportunity to succeed. Thus because the processes are equal, they are equal.
   The unconstrained vision, best articulated by Thomas Paine, only sees equality when equal results are achieved. In their eyes, being that all races are equal, if disparities still exist, then the processes are defunct and equal results must be achieved by manipulation of society by the elite.
   In regards to these clowns in Tucson, I don’t give them the credit of those depicted by Sowell. These people are nothing more than soldiers in an ongoing process to destroy any source of western identity. To be white is a shame and to be proud of the west is a crime. If these people truly cared about minorities they would recognize what a slap in the face this is to their credibility. It’s only going to get better.

   Excerpt from the article-
   With the goal of creating a “restorative school culture and climate” that conveys a “sense of belonging to all students,” the board is insisting that its schools reduce its suspensions and/or expulsions of minority students to the point that the data reflect “no ethnic/racial disparities.”
   It would seem to me since these ethnic/racial groups hold so strong to their ethnic/racial identity they would be able to come together and see that the data does not reflect disparities, by conforming to the expected standards of the culture or higher. Such a concerted cultural effort by an ethnicity would be an admirable trait and it should be viewed as a virtue to other cultures. Wait a minute, never mind…I just described the Jewish community…a community of family, education, self control, almost zero crime and a belief in God. I forgot it is not in vogue to respect the Jews in this day of Progressive Nazism. Just like the leftist ideology of class envy, culture envy is used against the Jews today just as it was 60 years ago. But a hint to the leftist ideologue, tearing them down does not build you up.
   Such a standard in the world of golf would allow a hacker like me with a 30 handicap to play and compete with Tiger Woods on even footing. Of course I am not blessed with a golfers physique and I don’t hardly ever (ok never) practice. But if the handicap was used in the world of pro golf I could win the new Buick and a million dollars a week just as easy as Tiger. I would have no reason to practice because if I got worse or if he got better the handicap would make us equal. How awesome would that be- a new pear shaped middle aged guy winning it each week. The only one that wouldn’t be happy is Tiger, but you know what they say, “the needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few.”

   Yep on the face of it this is pretty bloody silly. Perhaps a more useful approach would be to find out why certain minority groups are behaving badly. For example many new Vietnamese and Somalian immigrants in my daughters school were causing trouble. After a sensitive intervention the school discovered that most of the Somalian kids were coming to school without breakfast or lunch. A volunteer breakfast programme for ALL kids (not just somalian) made a terrific difference in the concentration and agression levels with this group. the issue for the Vietnamese group was cultural, their parents rated maths and science very highly but told the kids to ignore and disparage English, history drama etc. Again work with a supportive member of the vietnamese community and parents had a serious impact on their children’s behaviour.
   What I’m trying to say is brute adjustment of statistics we dont like through quotas etc doesn’t work and is insulting to all. However, moving structural immpediments to understanding or progress can work if it is done without discriminating.

   Just think. Everything they are doing to try to make everything equal and to help race relations…..is only giving actual racists more ammo and creating new and dare i say……….justified hatred.
   Example.
   White kid skips class…..gets detention for a week.
   Black/Mexican/Ect kid skips class…..gets detention for a day.
   Ya……………thats not doing to stir up hatred. Naw. Not at all.

   Fine raa raa raa, the first 3 comments tried to think about the topic but hey, let’s all shout slogans and the problem will go away. ad hominen attacks are pretty poor. We all type without too much thought at times,and i have said to those running the site i’ll leave if asked but I dont fit the definition of a troll. sorry to confuse you.

   Missing from the commentary is applause to Selwyn Duke for a wonderfully articulate observation of a serious problem. To supplement Selwyn’s eloquence I add the following:
   The source of this hypocrisy and double-standard is Marxism/Communism. The Left uses issues of race to sow discord among us. In fact, if one were to analyze this controversy minutely, one can easily determine that the “liberal” Left is far more racist than their opposition.
   Why promote racial quotas if one does not truly believe that certain races are inferior?
   Why advocate for institutionally racist programs such as Affirmative Action if one does not truly believe that the minorities it seeks to “defend” are not inferior?
   Far be it from me to promote a statement by President George W. Bush but he correctly identified such hypocrisy as “the soft bigotry of low expectations”. He was right on.

   Why promote racial quotas if one does not truly believe that certain races are inferior?
   now that’s just stupid. as one from the left i disagree with the approach taken in the article this thread is about. But affirmative action programmes were not established because people thought women or aborigines or new migrants were inferiour but becuase it was thought that it was the easiest way to adjust for stuborn structural inequities of access.
   For example, rural people probably get the most subsidies of this nature in your country and mine. Yet I dont hear the right screaming about that. In my country places are kept aside at universities specifically for rural people because it is assumed it is harder for them to get to university for a variety of structural reasons. The same for the old allocated places for women in faculties such as the law. Most of these programmes seem to be dying a natural death anyway so it’s a bit of a strawman.
   BTW I would love to hear your approach to stipping farm subsidies from US farmers since it sounds sort of communist to me.

    PS one of the most successful programmes fo aborigines is one where govt and private partnerships pay for poor kids from homelands to go to boarding school at extremely good schools. If you call that rascist or communist you are a heartless thug. maybe you think it would be better to put the money into prisons or drug treatment instead.
    if that is an unfair version of your POV I apologise but i have met many on your side in politics who scream against preventative govt run programmes but are perfectly fine with gvt paying private prisons.

    Is this a reference to the economic argument of free trade vs protectionism or are you making a point about welfare subsidies to rural folk from the government? Or both?

    Well i would argue that farm subsidies, particularly of the “pay you to grow nothing” are a form of government welfare. Therefore, to those on this site who are either Galtian or “the market can do no wrong” – conservatives the subsidies should be stripped away and american farmers should compete with farmers from the third world. However since farmers are real americans by Palin logic, I cant see it happening.
    PS saw an amusing figure today,the budget for one year of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, part of the 2010 Defense Appropriations bill that’ll probably be passed by the Senate today, is $128.2 billion. The cost of the most generous, most public optiony of the health care bills currently under consideration in the Congress is roughly $110 billion a year.
    Well it would be funny if it wasn’t so bloody sad.

    Well, from an economic standpoint subsidies to american farmers are not the most efficient way to have food produced and it goes against the free market principles that most conservatives cling to. I believe in this specific example though it is far wiser to have domestically grown food for self evident strategic reasons. A state should always produce enough food to meet minimum consumption levels for it’s populace, even when it flies in the face of comparative advantage.

    Farm subsidies are a reminant of FDR buying votes using the public purse. Like any Gov’t program they are hard to kill once they start; no one has the balls to pull them. You know pull the subsidies and kill all of Willie Nelsons farmer buddies. This is a prime reason why a pure democracy does not work. This is why we all should be for VERY limmited government. Once they take they keep…soon they will have it all.

    I implore our friend Yoyo to attempt to explain how Affirmative Action is not institutionalized racism. He took us on quite a ride to avoid the point.
    Please also explain how hiring practices, enrollment in higher education, the offering of scholarships and career advancement should be based on the color of one’s skin rather than the quality of one’s achievement and earned merit?
    I shall be sure to empty my bladder prior to reading your reply.
