Catholic Bishops: The Faithful Should Not Support Current Healthcare Reform Bills

Upset about the inclusion of abortion funding and mandates in the
healthcare reform bills currently before Congress, the United States
Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is blanketing 19,000 parishes
across the nation with a bulletin insert instructing the faithful to
oppose the bills in their present form.

The USCCB relates the substance of the insert in a news release, writing:

"Health care reform should be about
saving lives, not destroying them," the insert states. It urges readers
to contact Senate leaders so they support efforts to "incorporate
longstanding policies against abortion funding and in favor of
conscience rights" in health reform legislation.

 "If these serious concerns are not addressed, the final bill should be opposed," it adds.

    Another excellent article by Selwyn Duke.
    I was raised as a Roman Catholic. I attended Roman Catholic Catechism as a boy and graduated from a Roman Catholic high school. I have since departed from the Roman Catholic Church based on Scriptural and liturgical differences of fact and opinion.
    However, I have the utmost respect for the Roman Catholic Church and for her Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI. This is not due to the fact that the Lady of my life is a devout Catholic who sings in her parish’s choir, but due to the Church’s value placed on human life and their worldwide efforts to mitigate human suffering.
    ALL life is precious. ALL life is miraculous. As human beings, we have been blessed by the Almighty with exceptional avenues of perception that lesser life forms do not possess. These faculties exist so that we may perceive our loving Creator. To thank Him. To cherish Him. To worship Him as the giver of all life and the guarantor that this precious life that we have can exist eternally.
    To abort a human life in its gestation is a grievous sin. To understand life and biology is to understand the work of the Master’s hand. All life is precious, from the simplest forms such a sponge or an amoeba but none is so precious as the human being.
    I once unwittingly insulted a “liberal” friend of mine who extolled the virtues of singer Joan Baez. I did so by accurately asserting that Ms. Baez, prior to hypocritically leading choruses of “Amazing Grace” at a vigil protesting the execution of vicious criminal and murderer Stanley “Tookie” Williams she had spent the prior weekend at a pro-abortion rally.
    How can anyone or anything be more hypocritical? Or more insane?

    The blatant hypocrisy of the liberal is proof that liberals in power are evil, and liberals who aren’t are either naive or selfish. Selwyn continues to solidly refute their hypocrisy.
    PS.
    Philip, I’m in the same situation with the “Lady of my life.” I disagree with some fundamentals in the Catholic Church, but she is Catholic. Do you attend church separately or rotate?

    Dear Jonny,
    I occasionally attend Mass with my beloved. I enjoy hearing her choir sing and the Pastor is a dear man.
    As for myself, I am not a member of or participant with any organized denomination or ministry. I attend a home-fellowship. My beloved has an open invitation to join me but has yet to accept. I have no problem with this. It is in the most unifying belief that we agree: that Jesus the Nazarene is the Son of the Most High God and our living Lord and Savior. That’s good enough for me.
