Just as hope is not a strategy, outrage is not an argument. This could come to mind with the Tuesday CBS News headline “Outrage after Missouri lawmakers’ new dress code for women in the state House.” The issue?

Female legislators will now be held to standards approximating those of their male colleagues.

This is absolutely ridiculous ! There is nothing wrong with the way women politicians in America dress . Many prefer to wear pant suits etc rather than dresses . So what ? Big deal. Who cares ? Yes, this is a double standard . There is no dress code for male politicians in America . They wear suits . Nobody complains about this . And there is absolutely no need to tell women politicians how to dress . Yes, there has been a lot of progress for women’s rights in America in our time, but dress codes for women politicians are not part of it .
