As our Reichstag fire moment continues, a Big Tech iron muzzle descends across America. And following the purging of President Trump and some other conservatives from Twitter comes news that the company’s main competition, Parler.com, will go off the Internet at midnight after a coordinated Big Tech attack.
Of course, this all comes in the wake of news that Trump and other conservatives were moving to Parler to find refuge from GoogTwitFace censorship.
It happened fast. First Google and Apple banned Parler from its app stores on Friday and Saturday. Now comes something closer to a coup de grace: Amazon will shut down all the company’s servers at midnight in what Parler’s CEO calls “a coordinated attack by the tech giants to kill competition in the market place.”
More significantly even, it’s an attempt to kill patriotic dissent in the marketplace of ideas.

If you want to know why prominent figures now talk about the “cleansing” and even “eradication” of Trump supporters, look no further than our schools, where “tolerance” is preached but intolerance practiced. The latest example is a University of Wisconsin-Madison survey finding that almost two-thirds of students believe the government should have the power to punish “hate speech.”
Conducted online last year between 10/20 and 11/9 by the Tommy G. Thompson Center on Public Leadership (TTCPL), a center-right think tank on campus, in partnership with the University of Wisconsin Survey Center, the research featured 530 undergraduate respondents.
“The results are troubling,” laments the TTCPL. “As this report describes, many UW students do not understand what constitutes protected speech or activity under the First Amendment. Moreover, some of their responses reveal substantial opposition to established free speech principles and religious liberties.”

Imagine that spouses in a marriage increasingly lived separate lives, socializing with different circles of friends, eating dinner apart, watching TV in separate rooms, and avoiding substantive discussion because they found it impossible to talk matters out. Wouldn’t you suspect they were heading for a break-up?
Now imagine that much of the division resulted because one spouse banned the other from his circle of friends, dinner table, and TV room and refused to discuss differences rationally, instead preferring to just hurl names. Whom would you most blame for an impending separation?
It used to be that while Americans were divided by party, they generally interacted together in other arenas such as church, community organizations, and social clubs. The modern versions of social clubs, writ large, are social media. This brings us to some striking recent news stories.

Infamous segregationist Democrat governor George Wallace proclaimed more than a half century ago, “Segregation today, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever!” His prediction may be coming to pass, too — and it’s today’s Democrats making it happen.
Just as racial equality has given way to “equity,” a euphemism for racial discrimination, integration is now increasingly giving way to segregation. The latest case in point is a “Racial Justice Task Force” commissioned by the University of Pennsylvania that has prescribed a “permanent shared space for black student-athletes.”

The Wednesday storming of the Capitol was wrong, and the perpetrators should and will be punished in a way that, you can bet, 2020’s leftist rioters should have been but almost universally weren’t. (Although, do note, they themselves may turn out to be left-wing provocateurs.) Know, too, that the January 6 lawbreakers were immediately condemned in the mainstream media in a way the leftist rioters should have been but almost universally weren’t. That’s the two-tiered justice system and crocodile-tear media we now have.
Yet because precedents matter and violence begets violence, the storming perhaps “wasn’t so surprising…."

It was always predictable that establishment Republicans would turn on President Trump as soon as he was weak; that’s what political animals do. Sure, they paid lip service to his agenda while he wielded power, but this was clearly only going to last until that power dissipated. They are opportunists all.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell epitomizes this, and a lie-ridden speech he gave in the Capitol last night epitomizes him.

We’ve long known that the Left likes fat in government to the point where Uncle Sam has become morbidly obese feasting on trillions in tax money. But leftists and their Cult of the Body didn’t seem to appreciate fat on people very much. They sure didn’t like it on President Trump when their “Girther” movement fat-shamed him in 2018, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Skinny) expressed concern for the commander in chief in May, calling him “morbidly obese” (because Nan surely would be beside herself if Trump dropped dead of a heart attack).
But all that is just so, well, last month. That is, at least according to Cosmopolitan magazine, which now is promoting obese women as healthy. Just feast your eyes on the mag’s February cover….
