The Taliban and Islamic state blow up ancient statues. Cambodia’s communist Khmer Rouge aimed to erase the past and start history anew with their “Year Zero.” As for our “devolutionaries,” when will they destroy Mt. Rushmore? Answer: when they have enough power.

There’s now a mad rush to tear down Confederate monuments and statues, with General Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, Jefferson Davis, and even rank-and-file Confederate soldiers being victims. This occurs despite a healthy majority of Americans — including a plurality of blacks — believing the memorials should stand. Moreover, even more widely revered American figures are now in the cross hairs, with proposals to remove monuments to Founders such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. After all, they share the Confederates’ unpardonable sin: having been slave owners.

“A picture is worth a thousand words.” This principle was illustrated well in the first televised presidential debate — the 1960 affair with John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon — after which people who’d listened to the event on radio thought Nixon won but those who’d actually watched it thought Kennedy won. After all, Nixon, with his five o’clock shadow and nervous glances, couldn’t match the telegenic JFK. This image lesson hasn’t been lost on the media, and now a professional photographer has accused CBS of “Nixonizing” Steve Bannon in a TV appearance the former White House advisor made this past Sunday.

Cheech and Chong shouldn’t celebrate just yet. Contrary to previous findings, a new study shows that marijuana use may not be damaging to young kidneys. Nonetheless, the drug has been associated with reduced I.Q. in habitual teen users and with psychotic disorders, and some experts warn that tokers inhale a cocktail of dangerous chemicals.

If those on the Left really cared about slavery, they wouldn’t be obsessed with tearing down the statues of long-dead slave-owners. They wouldn’t spend their time impugning George Washington and other Founders for something that, until relatively recently, was the norm most anywhere and everywhere and was defended by most anyone and everyone.

What they might do is combat the slavery still occurring in non-Western countries.

The continual anti-Trump leftist violencethat began before even the president’s inauguration saw another chapter written Sunday, when black-clad anarchists attacked peaceful demonstrators at a Berkeley rally.

The scene was the California city’s “No Marxism in America” protest. While it was met by a larger left-wing “Rally Against Hate,” the trouble didn’t begin until approximately 100 anarchists showed up and, apparently, were given minutes of free rein by police. As eyewitness Lizzie Johnson, a San Francisco Chronicle reporter, related in a tweet, "The #Berkeley police have stood down. A sea of black masks as far as I can see. This is what WAS NOT supposed to happen."

Would baby Charlie have gotten his death sentence were he not a white boy? It may seem an odd question, but there’s a good reason to pose it.

The poor child at issue is Charlie Gard, a British infant thus far denied medical treatment by the U.K. government — even though his parents can pay for it themselves. So much for death panels being a myth.

Call it “Culture of Death” contagion or call it something else, but American youngsters are killing themselves at what appears a record rate. In fact, strikingly, there are now even cases of suicide involving eight- and nine-year-olds.

The spike mainly involves middle-schoolers, however. As USA Todayreports, “The suicide rate among 10- to 14-year-olds doubled between 2007 and 2014, for the first time surpassing the death rate in that age group from car crashes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In 2014 alone, 425 middle schoolers nationwide took their own lives.”
