• NYC: Liberals Open Fake Gun Store to Push Gun Control

    Ar15By Selwyn Duke

“A gun store opened in Manhattan….” It sounds like the beginning of a story — or a tale. And the effort essentially was fiction.

Critics would say its message was fiction, too.

As the salesman behind the counter showed one couple a firearm, he said to the husband, “It’s the easiest gun we have to use…. It’s a .22 caliber, six-inch revolver. It's also a gun that a 5-year-old found in his parents’ bedroom [and] went and shot his 9-month-old baby brother with."

What was being sold, you see, wasn’t guns but gun control. The store, set up on Manhattan’s liberal Lower East Side, equipped with hidden cameras, and given the imaginative name “Gun Shop,” was open just two days last week. The video footage shot was then used in an ad.

  • Will Supreme Court Squelch Free Speech Because “Mob” Might be Offended?

    American FlagBy Selwyn Duke

The five American students were not allowed to display their American-flag T-shirts because Mexican students might be offended and become violent. This certainly might be expected in Chihuahua, or Veracruz, or Tijuana. But it happened in Morgan Hill — California — in the USA.

The American schoolboys were given a choice: turn their shirts inside-out, get suspended, or go home. And you probably thought that anywhere in America was our flag’s home.

That was May 5, 2010, “Cinco de Mayo,” at Live Oak High School, and the students have since sued. And now their case may be heard by the Supreme Court. This is because a lower court issued a late January ruling on the incident that critics say establishes a “heckler’s veto” allowing speech to be prohibited simply because someone else is offended by it.

  • Black Minister: Obama Lying, Black Americans “Acting Like Ku Klux Klan”

    Prejudice SignBy Selwyn Duke

The latest shootings of policemen in Ferguson and the town’s riots last year were incited by race-baiting black leaders — such as Barack Obama and Eric Holder. So says black minister Jesse Lee Peterson, head of the Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny. Moreover, says the reverend, blacks are fertile ground for racialist propaganda because bigotry is rife in their community and, as a consequence, they “are acting like the Ku Klux Klan.”

Writing at WND.com, Peterson cites the self-defense shooting of Michael Brown by ex-Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson as a case study in the above phenomena. Despite three autopsies and an official Department of Justice report exonerating Officer Wilson, a surprising number of black Americans still believe he’s guilty — and Obama still feeds that delusion.

  • The Only Thing That Can Destroy Hillary Clinton

    376550_blogBy Selwyn Duke

Hillary Clinton is a dangerous woman. And her e-mail scandal, which has dominated the news recently, is reflective of why.

Under a despotic regime, such as the former Soviet Union, the government can know everything about the people, but the people are allowed to know little about the government. And what they are allowed to “know” tends to be propaganda released to cultivate a sanitized image of the state. In a society with just freedoms, limited government, and a healthy citizen-state relationship, the people can know most everything about the government, but the government is allowed to know little about the people. In other words, government is supposed to be an open book (save one small chapter named “Classified”) and citizens’ lives a private diary.

This is why, while there’s good reason to oppose NSA surveillance of average Americans, there’s every reason to have transparent government subject to continual scrutiny. But this can’t happen unless there’s something to scrutinize.

  • Spokane: Armed 2nd-Amend. Supporters Confront Feds; Feds Back Down

    Bullets on ConstitutionBy Selwyn Duke

While eyes were focused on the Selma golden jubilee celebrating bygone battles, a current-day civil-rights battle was being waged — and ignored by the mainstream media. It took place at the Spokane, Washington, federal courthouse, where armed Second Amendment supporters confronted federal officials.

    And the feds backed down.

The March 6 rally, organized by a group calling itself “Liberty for All” (LFA), was a response to the arrest of military veteran and former Yakima County sheriff candidate Anthony Bosworth. A staunch constitutionalist, open-carry advocate, and LFA leader, Bosworth was participating in the “Our State, Our Rights” rally near Spokane’s federal courthouse February 25 with an unloaded rifle slung over his shoulder. This didn’t sit well with federal agents, who approached Bosworth, asked for identification, and accused him of breaking the law. But Boswell and his supporters say the feds are the lawbreakers.

  • American Narcissist: Raising With Praising Makes Jack a Proud Boy

    Boy Throwing TantrumBy Selwyn Duke

If Barack Obama is the narcissist some claim he is, he just may be, to paraphrase French philosopher Joseph de Maistre, the president we deserve. Because according to a new university study, Westerners are raising generations of narcissists — and it’s the result of modern parents’ habit of lavishing continual, often underserved praise upon their children. Writes TimmonsPress.com:

Parents who overvalue their kids aren't doing them any favours, a new study suggests.

Researchers from Ohio State University and the University of Amsterdam sought to determine the origins of narcissism and found children scored higher on narcissism tests later on if their parents described them in surveys as "more special than other children" or deserving of "something extra in life."

"Children believe it when their parents tell them that they are more special than others. That may not be good for them or for society," co-author Brad Bushman said in a press release.

Elaborating, Forbes’ Alice Walton writes that the research vindicates the “social learning theory,” which “suggests that kids become narcissists when their parents overvalue them — that is, when parents treat their kids as fundamentally more deserving than others, or as Freud put it, when they ‘are under a compulsion to ascribe every perfection to the child — which sober observation would find no occasion to do.’”

  • San Francisco Seeks to Punish Catholic Schools for Being Catholic

    1746135_lowBy Selwyn Duke

It’s ironic in a city whose name translates into “Saint Francis,” but the San Francisco government is apparently shocked and dismayed to learn that Catholic schools are supposed to be, well, Catholic. In the latest salvo against faith, some city supervisors are condemning San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone (shown) for seeking to uphold Catholic educational integrity. One local legislator even says that the city is considering legal action. As Lifesite News writes:

Gay activists, politicians and dissident Catholics have launched an all-out media attack campaign against the archbishop after he recently announced that he wants to codify a long-standing, commonsense expectation that Catholic schoolteachers in his diocese uphold and display public integrity regarding Catholic teachings on a wide variety of topics.

This includes Catholic teaching on controversial issues like abortion, contraception, chastity, and same-sex “marriage,” as well the Eucharist and the teaching authority of the Church.

The diocesan announcement was made February 3 and involves the addition of a passage in faculty and staff handbooks for its four high schools that reiterates long-standing Catholic teaching. In a nutshell, the diocese stated that teachers have a “ministerial” role and an obligation to not oppose Catholic principles when conducting their educational duties. Given that schools’ purpose is teaching, that Catholic schools would be teaching Catholic teaching is just common sense. Apparently, though, this is very uncommon among some.

  • Hispanic Cop Kills White Man; Media, Authorities Silent 18 Months

    Scales of JusticeBy Selwyn Duke

    John Geer had white privilege.

The privilege of being shot by police and having his death largely ignored by the media, authorities, and activists.

“Hands up, don’t shoot!” It has become a meme and rallying cry for all the wrong reasons and all the wrong people. But it was never a more accurate sound-bite description of events than in the Geer case. The hapless 46-year-old was standing in the doorway of his Fairfax, Virginia, home with his hands at head level when shot by an officer with known “anger issues” who has been subject to four internal-affairs investigations. Geer had committed no crime that day — even the policeman who killed him admits that. Nor was he drunk, armed, or posing a threat at the time.

Oh, and the above is corroborated by six witnesses — four of whom are police officers.

In short, indications are that Geer was murdered that fateful day, August 29, 2013. Yet his case had been largely ignored for 18 months. In fact, the officer who shot him is still on the Fairfax County police force.

  • Atheist Dawkins: Gov’t Must Protect Children From Religious Parents

    Religion-AtheismBy Selwyn Duke

Freedom of religion is a right treasured by many Westerners. But then there are those people who want freedom from religion — and atheism point-man Richard Dawkins is among them. In fact, not content just purging faith from public institutions, the biologist turned irreligious bad boy is now taking aim at families. Writes the Independent:

Richard Dawkins has called on schools to protect children from being indoctrinated by their religious parents.

The renowned evolutionary biologist and atheist argued that parents were given too much power over their children’s educations, and that it was time to give more rights back to the individuals themselves.

“There is a balancing act and you have to balance the rights of parents and the rights of children and I think the balance has swung too far towards parents,” he said.

“Children do need to be protected so that they can have a proper education and not be indoctrinated in whatever religion their parents happen to have been brought up in.”

Dawkins’ comments were made prior to a talk at Trinity College Dublin late last month while being interviewed by the Irish Times, which, providing more detail, writes, “Warning against the ‘power of childhood indoctrination,’ he said it was futile debating with people who put the Bible ahead of scientific evidence. ‘You have to write off those people’ but you can try to convince younger people to avoid superstition, Prof Dawkins said.”

Echoing these sentiments were his co-speaker at the college event, physicist Lawrence Krauss, who was also interviewed by the Times and said that parents “don’t have the right to shield their children from knowledge.” Kraus continued, “That’s not a right any more than they have the right to shield their children from health care or medicine. And those parents that do that are often tried and imprisoned when they refuse to allow their children to get blood transfusions or whatever is necessary for their health. And this is necessary for their mental health.”

There is much to criticize in Dawkins’ position. As a simple point of fact, it is a falsehood to say that the “balance” of rights has “swung too far toward parents”; in reality, recent decades have seen a steady erosion of parental rights.

This isn’t to say these “rights” have generally been reassigned to children; this won’t happen because we universally recognize that, as immature beings, children lack the judgment necessary to successfully negotiate the world on their own. Left to his own devices…

  • ABC “Family” Airs First-ever Homosexual Kiss Between 13-year-old Boys

    Linked Male SymbolsBy Selwyn Duke

It’s certainly not your grandfather’s family programming. Not all kinds of history should be made, but this didn’t stop the ABC drama The Fosters from airing the youngest ever same-sex kiss Monday night — between 13-year-old boys (shown).

Unfortunately, the kiss was hardly out of place on The Fosters. Co-created by actor, director, and screenwriter Peter Paige — who claims to be “married” to a man — the program, to quote the Daily Beast, “is already lauded as one of the most progressive shows on TV.” As Raffy Ermac at homosexual site Advocate.com describes it, “The Fosters, which premiered on ABC Family in June 2013, centers on lesbian couple Stef and Lena (actresses Teri Polo and Sherri Saum) and their family; they are parents to Jude and four other children. The show last year brought in a transgender male character named Cole (played by the nonbinary actor Tom Phelan).”

“Non-binary” is one of today’s ever metastasizing “genders” and is applied to people who, writes Slate, “disregard the idea of a male and female dichotomy, or even a male-to-female continuum with androgyny in the middle. For them, gender is a complex idea that might fit better on a three-dimensional chart, or a multidimensional web.” Note that “gender” is not synonymous with “sex,” but refers to a person’s perception of what he is; consequently and as The New American reported Monday, it’s now becoming more accepted that your “gender” can be whatever you imagine it to be.
