• New York Plunges into Marriage Insanity

    By Selwyn Duke

If it weren’t so tragic, there really would be something amusing about “progressivism.” New York just legalized the curiosity that many call by an oxymoronic euphemism but that I, in my up-the-down-staircase effort to control the language, more rightly call faux marriage. And the tragically amusing part is this: We effect our much vaunted social change progressively, a smidgeon here, a tad there, a dollop elsewhere – until it is everywhere. But why waste all this time? Just cut to the chase and allow people to civilly unionize, marriage-pretend, tie the nuttiness – or whatever you want to dub it – with … well, whomever. It’s where we’re headed, anyway. And opposite sex or not, sentient or otherwise, animate or room temperature; what’s the difference? We all believe in freedom and choice, right? Everybody is a human being entitled to human rights, right? Let slip the horndogs of culture war.

I will tell you why we don’t.

Because there is absolutely no logic behind how we “progress.”

In fact, it cannot even be called progress because the word implies movement toward a destination, and the progressives among us never define any such place. Instead, what we call progress is simply governed by what people have been conditioned to accept.

  • College Islamization: Yale Closes Initiative for Study of Anti-Semitism

Big Man Stepping on Small Man By Selwyn Duke

It was 60 years ago that William F. Buckley published God and Man at Yale, a book critical of the hostility toward religion prevalent at the Ivy League school. But now religion may be poised to make a comeback at the institution — at least, that is, if its god is called Allah.

Just this month, Yale took the striking step of shutting down the Yale Initiative for the Interdisciplinary Study of Anti-Semitism (YIISA), supposedly at the behest of powerful Muslim forces. Writes FrontPageMag.com’s Phyllis Chesler:

The Palestinianization and Stalinization of the American professoriate coupled with the likely prospect of funding from the Arab world made this outcome inevitable….

Only last year, there were bitter and very public complaints the Palestinians and their supporters made in response to YIISA’s best-ever conference on contemporary global anti-Semitism, which was held last August. And why? Because the scholars gathered by YIISA from at least five or more continents dared to focus on the Muslim and Islamist face of genocidal anti-Semitism.

The YIISA global conference…was utterly unique in focusing not only upon the politically correct view of anti-Semitism as a Christian, Western, and European phenomenon, but also on its current and lethal incarnation in the Islamic and Islamist worlds.

  • Cowardly British Cops Cover Up Muslim Crime

    1063641_low By Selwyn Duke

Much like a caterpillar, the West grows more self-destructive with age.  And the moth it has become cannot resist being drawn toward the flame of liberalism.  This results in continual forays into the heat of cultural indifference, and a recent example is the British police’s refusal to pursue Muslim criminals for fear of being labeled bigots.  The Telegraph reports on the story, writing that it has “uncovered more than a dozen…cases in [the London Borough of] Tower Hamlets where both Muslims and non-Muslims have been threatened or beaten for behaviour deemed to breach fundamentalist ‘Islamic norms.’”

  • U.S. Students Ignorant of History; Will Repeat Mistakes of Past

Back to School Duncecap By Selwyn Duke

Once again, a study has show that American students are woefully ignorant of history. Test scores from the National Assessment of Educational Progress demonstrate, writes the Wall Street Journal, that only “20% of U.S. fourth-graders and 17% of eighth-graders who took the 2010 history exam were ‘proficient’ or ‘advanced’…” and only 12 percent of 12th-graders were so. In fact, their knowledge is so lacking that fewer than “a quarter of American 12th-graders knew China was North Korea's ally during the Korean War, and only 35% of fourth-graders knew the purpose of the Declaration of Independence,” the paper continued. Other studies have shown similarly stunning results. In 2008, the New York Times wrote about how fewer than “half of American teenagers…knew when the Civil War was fought, and one-quarter thought that Christopher Columbus sailed to the New World sometime after 1750, not in 1492.” The Times also reported that “[a]bout a quarter of the teenagers surveyed were unable to correctly identify Adolf Hitler as Germany’s chancellor during World War II, instead identifying him variously as a munitions maker, an Austrian premier and the German Kaiser.”

Now, of course, this educational dysfunction inspires many to sound the alarm about America’s decline. And we hear many proposed solutions. Unfortunately, though, the typical ones will do nothing to right the ship.

  • Russia: “Morally Corrupt to the Core”

Angel vs. Demon By Selwyn Duke

When Nevada Senate contender Sharron Angle led incumbent Harry Reid by three points in polls but lost by six on Election Day 2010, it raised some eyebrows. Yet that is nothing compared to the Russian region of Tambov, where Vladimir Putin’s party, United Russia (UR), polled at 35 percent in April but then cruised to victory with a whopping 65 percent of the vote a month later. Now that’s a get-out-the-dead-vote effort even a Chicago ACORN chapter couldn’t have matched.

Yet this is no joke. UR’s “anomalous” win in Tambov, writes long-time Russian parliamentarian Vladimir Ryzhkov, reflects an “entire society” that is becoming “morally corrupt to the core.”

Citing a 20-page report issued by the Tambov regional head of the Party of People’s Freedom, attorney Nikolai Vorobyov, Ryzhkov details Russian election fraud that is truly staggering in scope and organization. (And yet we hear nothing from the Obama administration about the fact that the world’s second most powerful nation is regressing to tyranny.)

  • Politically Correct Washington Supreme Court Overturns Murder Conviction

Judge pounding Gavel By Selwyn Duke

In 2007, Kevin L. Monday Jr. was convicted for the murder of Francisco Green and received 64 years in prison.  The incident ad been caught on a 3-minute video recording shot by a street performer, and the footage clearly showed Monday coolly and calculatingly firing 11 shots at Green on a crowded Seattle, Washington, street corner.  Thus, despite the reluctance of witnesses to testify, it was an open-and-shut case.

  • Dalai Lama: “I am a Marxist”

    Dalai-lama By Selwyn Duke

There is no better way to proclaim your lack of spiritual and philosophical depth than by, two decades after the fall of communism, disclosing that you’re Marxist.  Yet this is precisely what Buddhist spiritual leader the Dalai Lama did during a speech before 150 Chinese students at the University of Minnesota this month.  Journalist Tsering Namgyal reports on the story at Religion Dispatches, writing, “‘as far as socio-political beliefs are concerned, I consider myself a Marxist.’  ‘But not a Leninist,’ he [the Lama] clarified.”

Well, that’s a relief.  Those Leninists can really kill ya’.  Marxists will just murder you.

  • City Government Demands Keys to Private Properties

The government of Cedar Falls, Iowa, has actually passed an ordinance that requires owners of commercial property — this includes not just businesses but also apartments and some rental houses — to provide the government with keys to their properties.  I kid you not.  Notice how, in the city council meeting captured in this video, the statist legislators behave as if the citizens should have to prove why this anomalous, perhaps unprecedented law should be shelved.  They conduct themselves with an air of moral superiority, as if they're doing the citizenry a favor and the latter's complaints are an imposition.  In reality, these statists should be on the hot seat trying to justify insane legislation that never should have been contemplated in the first place.

I'll tell you, it sometimes seems as if talking is a waste of time.  The good townsfolk should just have brought their pitchforks and registered their four-pointed votes.

  • The American Flag is “Offensive” in Schools Now

    American Flag By Selwyn Duke

Increasingly, it seems that the American flag is joining toy guns and dodgeball on the banned-from-school list.  And the latest story on this front involves The Butterfield Elementary in Orange, Massachusetts, where a teacher told an 11-year-old boy that he may not hang his depiction of Old Glory because it might “offend” another student.

  • Here Comes Peter Cottontail Hopping Down the Statist Trail: Feds Fine Missouri Farmer $90,000

      2052845_low By Selwyn Duke

The definition of “totalitarian” is: “of or pertaining to a centralized government that does not tolerate parties of differing opinion and that exercises dictatorial control over many aspects of life. [Emphasis added.]” And while we’re not quite there yet — we still do hear other (mostly stupid) opinions — read the following and tell me if our government doesn’t meet the italicized portion of the above definition.

Rural Missouri farmer John Dollarhite was just fined $90,000 by our central government for engaging in a commercial endeavor.

Was he an illegal alien running drugs across our border?

No, such people benefit from a Department of Injustice that takes their side against Border Patrol agents.

Was a prostitution ring being run out of his home?

No, such people are rewarded with reelection to Congress.

Rather, Dollarhite’s dastardly sin was that he started a business selling rabbits.
