• Is Anyone Smart Enough to Micromanage an Economy?

The always-perspicacious economics professor Walter Williams' latest column contains an excellent explanation of why it is impossible for anyone, no matter how brilliant, to micromanage an economy.  What he says is something wise people know instinctively, but, nevertheless, it's worth a read.  If nothing else, it may provide you with another way to explain the truth contained therein to others.

  • Excerpts from a Cat’s Daily Diary

    Sinister Cat
By now, I'm sure you've all heard the story about the pet chimp in Connecticut (the rumors that he was an ACLU lawyer are unfounded) who attacked a woman.  Well, on the heels of that comes another warning about how your love for your pets may in fact be unrequited. Take heed. (What follows has been circulating throughout the Internet.)

  • Giving Obama a Chance

    Back Obama-TTO-003379
    By Selwyn Duke

Being a cerebral sort, when I
ponder President Obama’s seduction of America, I think of the story of the
snake and the duck.  To be brief, the
snake wants the duck to take him to the other side of a creek, but the duck is
reluctant.  He says, “But when we get
there, you’ll bite me.”  The snake is
very persuasive, however, and convinces the duck he wouldn’t do such a
thing.  He just wants help and would have
the utmost appreciation.  Well, I think
you know what happened upon concluding their little crossing.  Bam!
The snake bit the foolish bird, who then started stammering,
    “Bu-bu-bu-but you said . . . .”  The
snake just replied, “Hey, you knew what I was when you picked me up.”  I suppose the duck just wanted to give the
    serpent a chance.

  • Our Topsy-turvy world: Invaders Awarded Money in Suit Against American Citizen

    By Selwyn Duke

In keeping with the practice of arresting parents who spank ill-behaved brats and having taxpayers subsidize borrowers who can't live within their means, a rancher has just been punished for defending his own property.  Writes Reuters:

  • Alert: Obama Threatens Keyes and other Eligibility Plaintiffs

This is message from Alan Keyes about how Barack Obama is targeting for destruction those who seek the truth about his birth records.  Read it, and then please spread the word.

    Thought for Today

As many of you know, I am party to one of the lawsuits
seeking evidence that would help to establish, one way or the other, whether
Obama in fact meets the U.S. Constitution's eligibility requirements for the
office of President of the United States. To understand my view of the critical
issues involved see the WND articles The End of the Constitutional
    Republic
    , and Obama,
Oaths and the End of Constitutional Government
    .) Now Obama's lawyers have
filed a motion to quash our effort to obtain the relevant documents (cf. Bob
    Unruh's WND article Sanctions
    sought in eligibility case
.) I am told that it includes a demand that
monetary penalties be assessed against me and the other plaintiffs in the suit.
Though not unexpected, this motion confirms Obama's ruthless determination to
destroy anyone who continues to seek the information the Constitution requires.
Why should they demand penalties against citizens who are simply seeking the
enforcement of the Supreme Law of the Land? It is simply because their
persistence runs contrary to the will of a supposedly popular demagogue? This
smacks of tyrannical arrogance. That Obama thus signals his intent to bring
financial ruin on those who won't accept his cover-up of the circumstances of
his birth is a tactical escalation. It confirms the common sense suspicion that
he won't act forthrightly in this matter because he has something to hide.

  • Founder of TV Station Designed to Portray Moslems Positively Murders Wife

    By Selwyn Duke

Upstate New York — a picturesque, bucolic area — just isn't what it used to be.  First, I learned that nestled in the verdant heart of my home state's rural better three-quarters is terrorist training center Islamberg.  Now, out of Buffalo, NY, comes news that a 44-year-old Pakistani businessman named Muzzammil Hassan has just been charged with murder.  He killed his wife after she filed for divorce.  And here's the $64,000 question: Can anyone guess what method Hassan used?  Writes The Buffalo News:

  • Defending the Pope

    954801_blog
    By Selwyn Duke

    Pope Benedict XVI has found
himself in a maelstrom of controversy over his lifting of the excommunication
of Richard Williamson, an illegally-consecrated prelate who has downplayed the magnitude
of the Holocaust.  The Pope has been
scored by the media, certain Jewish groups and even some fellow Catholics, yet few
    truly understand what they’re criticizing.
    Let’s examine the matter.

  • Media Bias Against Traditional Values

We’re used to seeing quarterbacks pummeled at the Super Bowl, but this
year something else was sacked: a pro-life message featuring Barack
Obama. Although NBC had originally agreed to run the commercial, it
subsequently balked, stating that it wasn’t going to air advocacy ads.

  • The Threat of Islam
    http://youtube.com/v/8789NMWZ9EI
This is a video that seeks to demonstrate the consequences of allowing Islam to make inroads into a nation. It presents examples of civilizations whose populations are some percent Moslem (e.g., 5, 10, 25, 50 percent) and the social effects associated with each percentage. A critic could accuse it of being long on drama and short on explanations, but, nevertheless, it's an effective and, I think, an essentially accurate presentation.

I do have to fault the video's producer for having only shallow philosophical understanding, however. The narrator states that Islam is not a religion, that instead it is a way of life. But this is in fact a definition of any complete religion. If you understand the Truth, you'll realize that a person who believes he knows it will understand that you cannot compartmentalize Truth. You cannot say, "I'll be a Christian in church on Sundays but not when I do business." In fact, anyone who understands Christianity deeply will realize that it addresses much of what Islam does; it just prescribes different behavior.

Also understand that the elements of society mentioned in the video have to be organized and governed by some values. Call them Islamic, Christian, Buddhist, secular or Fig Newton values, but they are values nonetheless. And, at the end of the day, the distinction between "religious" and "secular" is largely a false one. For there really are only two kinds of ideas: True ones and untrue ones. If God exists, than the idea that He does is true, and that is the only thing that matters. And if an ideology is invalid, such as communism, calling it secular doesn't in any way mitigate its invalidity.

Anyway, I can't do this subject justice here, but suffice it to say that the problem with Islam isn't that it's a way of life. It's that it is a relatively dark way of life — much like secularism.

  • United Nations Pact Could Strip Away Parental Rights

    Family Silhouette
    By Selwyn Duke

If the United States ratifies the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), parents could be prohibited from homeschooling, spanking or even choosing the religion of their child.

If you’ve ever had to deal with a child-protective-services agency in a more statist part of the country, it’s an experience you’ll never forget. Living where I do, for example, within the gravitational pull of Den of Iniquity #2 (NYC), I could relate some grapevine horror stories about social-worker home invasions that would make your head spin. And here is just one little anecdote: I had an acquaintance whose 13-year-old son was required to strip down for social workers so they could examine him after it was discovered he might have suffered a scratch while being restrained by a family member.
