A New Mexico lawmaker aims to cut the fat – not in government, but through it. Educator-turned-legislator Gail Chasey (D) has proposed a measure dubbed the "Leave No Child Inside" bill, which would levy a 1 percent excise tax on televisions, video games and video game equipment to fund programs designed to fight childhood obesity.
The great economist Thomas Sowell just wrote an article about the perils of government intervention and stimulus packages. He writes:
Both political parties seem determined that the federal government should create a "stimulus package" of things designed to cushion a downturn in the economy.
That alone should be enough to make us remember that "the devil is always in the details," because things that are bipartisan are often twice as bad as things that are partisan.

To those who get their information from sources other than campaign propaganda, it’s no secret that John McCain believes in amnesty for illegals. Not surprisingly, however, this isn’t a position he touts on the stump. This is why it’s quite startling that he would choose an illegal-alien enabler as his Hispanic outreach director.
