• Claim: It’s “Official” — Scientists Say Religion Is Unnecessary for Morality

    Religion-AtheismBy Selwyn Duke

“Let us with caution indulge the supposition, that morality can be maintained without religion,” warned George Washington during his farewell address in 1796. Increasingly, however, this supposition is indulged, most recently in an article boldly claiming, “Scientists say you don’t need to be religious to have a ‘moral compass.’” Of course, a critic may ask, “What kind of moral compass are you talking about?” Leaving it there, however, wouldn’t do the issue justice because in this theist/atheist debate the two sides do the same thing: talk past each other.

  • Musk vs. the Machiavellians: Is X’s Victory Over Facebook and Instagram Real or Risible?

    Man in CrosshairsBy Selwyn Duke

As you read this, X marks the spot.

That is, the spot for controversy and congregation, as the social-media platform is inspiring hatred from the iron-muzzle censorship crowd and participation from those seeking an online free-speech haven. And while X’s (Twitter’s) impending demise has been gleefully predicted by many, owner Elon Musk can now say that reports of its death “are greatly exaggerated.”

After all, the platform just beat out Facebook and Instagram during the most recent analysis of Google’s top 100 organic search results.

  • Social Justice Has Birthed a New Demon Child: “Language Justice” Is Its Name

    Politically CorrectBy Selwyn Duke

There’s a new policy out of the Mile-High City that’s making some wonder just what it’s high on. After all, the initiative, called “language justice,” could conceivably turn the whole country into a Tower of Babel….

  • Education’s “Media Literacy”: The Left’s Latest Brainwashing Effort?

    American MindBy Selwyn Duke

“Media literacy” sounds like something no one should oppose. Who, after all, wants people illiterate in any respect? But it turns out that while media literacy is trumpeted as a way to sleuth Truth, it’s really a Trojan horse.

According to the Center for Media Literacy (CML), media literacy “is the ability to access, analyze, evaluate and create media in a variety of forms.”

“Media Literacy is a 21st century approach to education,” the CML elaborates. “It provides a framework to access, analyze, evaluate, create and participate with messages in a variety of forms — from print to video to the Internet. Media literacy builds an understanding of the role of media in society as well as essential skills of inquiry and self-expression necessary for citizens of a democracy.”

If that sounds good enough to be the stuff of legislation and education, know that it has already been made so. “Since 2016, ten states controlled by Democratic legislators, and three run by Republicans, have passed ‘media literacy’ laws,” reported RealClear Investigations (RCI) in March. This legislation mandates this “training” in schools. The problem?

  • As Millions Invade U.S., Mayorkas Orders Agents to Not “Misgender” Illegals

Back to School DuncecapBy Selwyn Duke

Authoring the DACA amnesty, promoting “sanctuary” cities, enabling the false claim that border agents whipped migrants, and allegedly ignoring asylum fraud apparently aren’t enough for Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas. In fact, Joe Biden’s border chief is trying to outdo himself, again, with his latest woke absurdity:

He has ordered border guards to not “misgender” illegal aliens.

Whew! It certainly will be a relief to border states to learn that the millions of migrants illegally streaming into our country won’t be addressed with the “wrong” pronouns.

  • Flip-flop Fauci Flips Again, Changes Tune on “Vaccine” Mandates

    Confusion-Traffic SignsBy Selwyn Duke

“There should be more mandates, there really should be.” So said Dr. Anthony Fauci in July 2021 while speaking to CNN host Jake Tapper. It wouldn’t be the last time, either, Joe Biden’s Covid point man would advise that Americans be compelled to take the then-new and largely untested coronavirus “vaccines.”

This had an effect, too: More than two million Americans lost their jobs after balking at the experimental shots. Many multiples of that number submitted to the coercion, and some would later suffer serious side effects — including, in certain cases, death.

But now Fauci, (in)famous for flipping more than a gymnast, has changed his tune on mandates. In fact….

  • Happy Thanksgiving!

TurkeyI wish you a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving. And let's all remember that integral to the celebration is giving thanks.

And this year, I'm going to publish a transcription of George Washington's Thanksgiving Proclamation:

By the President of the United States of America—

    A Proclamation

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor—and Whereas both Houses of Congress have by their Joint Committee requested me "to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness."

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be—That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks—for his kind care and protection of the People of this country previous to their becoming a Nation—for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his providence, which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war—for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed—for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted, for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions—to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually—to render our national government a blessing to all the People, by constantly being a government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed–to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord—To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and Us—and generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

  • Back of the Bus: White Calif. Senate Candidates Told to Step Aside for Black Woman

    Prejudice SignBy Selwyn Duke

“It’s more complicated when it’s about your own children,” said a New York City liberal years ago, reacting to “diversity” efforts in his kids’ school. It’s also more complicated, apparently, when it’s about your own power and position — then, suddenly, Diversity™ may not seem so appealing.

Just ask 2024 candidates Adam Schiff and Katie Porter; they could tell you. That the Democratic California congressmen are both vying for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by the late Dianne Feinstein isn’t sitting well with some fellow liberals; in fact, they’ve been told to “sacrifice their egos and ambitions” and cease their affirmative inaction — and why?

So that a black woman can have the Senate seat.

To heck with what the voters want, apparently.

  • Mayor Adams “Defunds the Police” — and More — to Pay for MIGRANT Services

    Failure FigureBy Selwyn Duke

Could you imagine telling your kids that you weren’t going to have money for home security, their schoolbooks, or grandma’s meals because you want to support some squatters who invaded your property? This is analogous to what’s now happening in New York City, where left-wing Mayor Eric Adams has announced budget cuts to pay for the “migrant crisis.” This includes slashing Gotham’s police force to 29,000 cops — the lowest level since the mid ’90s. Note here that police morale is already low in the wake of Black Lives Matter-movement-oriented attacks on law enforcement.

In addition, the city has announced that it will close public libraries on weekends and cut almost $550 million from its Education Department. This comes after learning in June that NYC would cut “meals for senior citizens, re-entry programming for Rikers Island prisoners, and free, full-day care for three-year-olds,” as Bloomberg related at the time.

Oh, the Big Apple also plans to remove trash cans from the sidewalks. This, of course, is just what the city needs as it battles a rat crisis.

But, hey, you have to pay for the migrants’ $300-a-night hotel rooms somehow.

  • Shocking? Believing Masculinity Is Bad Harms Men’s Mental Health, Study Finds

    Struggling SchoolboyBy Selwyn Duke

We probably wouldn’t be surprised if we learned that making women believe femininity was bad harmed their mental health. Ditto for convincing children that having a childlike nature is bad. So perhaps it’s also no shock that, according to a recent study, convincing men masculinity is a negative force damages their psyches.
