• San Francisco Breaks Barriers in Crime: PIRATES Now Prowl Bay Area

    Failure FigureBy Selwyn Duke

No, they don’t have peg legs and eye patches or often exclaim “Arrrgh, Matey!” and you won’t taste a cutlass’ cold steel if interrupting their nefarious activities. But the fact remains that crime has become so pervasive in California that pirates — yes, pirates — are now a problem in the San Francisco Bay area.

Well, it is said that the Golden State is a trendsetter. And as one commentator puts it, “Why stop at Detroit when you can become the next Somalia?”

  • Injustice, American Style: BLM Rioters Walk — J6 Defendants Get Almost 20 Years

    Scales of JusticeBy Selwyn Duke

It’s certainly not unprecedented. Leftist Maximilien Robespierre, the French Revolution’s main author, was a passionate capital punishment opponent who called the death penalty a “cowardly assassination” — he then went on to execute thousands during his Reign of Terror. Likewise did the liberals of decades ago frown upon punishment, sometimes saying it “doesn’t work” and is “morally wrong.” Boy, has that ever changed.

Now, Frenchie Max style, punishment’s effectiveness is not only a self-evident truth to leftists, but it can’t be harsh enough.

That is, when it’s the “right people” being punished.

A good example is the recent sentencing of “Proud Boy” January 6 defendants, one of the latest of whom got 17 years for an incident in which no “one was killed, no property was significantly damaged, nothing was set on fire, nobody whipped out a gun, nobody got taken hostage, [and] no mass casualties were strewn through the streets,” as commentator Monica Showalter put it Friday.

In contrast, Black Lives Matter and Antifa rioters routinely get off with minor or no charges.

  • Belgian Boy Forced to Kiss Muslims’ Feet is Metaphor for the Death of the West

    MuslimStarandCrescentBy Selwyn Duke

The scene was terrible, so much so that were the victim and victimizers reversed, the incident would’ve been front-page news. Instead, it was “Nothing to see here; move along.”

“It’s just another ‘infidel’ being forced to kiss some Muslims’ feet and then beaten.”

There’s truth to the above statement, too: The violence and humiliation, visited recently on a frightened, young Belgian boy and caught on video, was just one of many incidents involving an age-old Islamic method for asserting dominance and control.

In fact, points out Arab commentator Raymond Ibrahim, forcing non-Muslims to kiss Muslims’ feet is a practice seen across time and space — the only thing that’s different, now, is how the West responds.

This difference exists, too, because of what the West has become. In fact, in poetic irony, the incident involving the young boy….

  • Mainstream Media Using Florida Shooting to Stoke Fear and Advance Leftism

    Politically CorrectBy Selwyn Duke

It’s understandable why some conclude that mainstream media, politicians, and other pseudo-elites just love “politically incorrect” murders. After all, in accordance with Democrat Rahm Emanuel’s counsel, “Never let a serious crisis go to waste,” such crimes are happily used by the establishment to advance their agenda. A case in point is the tragic, racially motivated Saturday killing of three black people at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Florida, by 21-year-old Ryan Christopher Palmeter.

First we have Florida state Democratic lawmaker Angie Nixon, who blamed Governor Ron DeSantis’ anti-woke policies for the shooting, saying he has “blood on his hands.”

  • Nagging Nanny State: Now Biden Wants to Crack Down on “Wasteful” Ceiling Fans

    Female SoldierBy Selwyn Duke

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive,” wrote philosopher C.S. Lewis. “It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

Whether or not our nanny-state busybodies exercise their tyranny “sincerely,” the above passage could come to mind when pondering the Joe Biden administration’s latest greentopian target: ceiling fans.

That’s right, trying to force people to drive unfeasible electric cars, use paper straws containing possibly toxic chemicals, embrace inferior dishwashers and washing machines, and become teetotalers isn’t enough.

  • Media Enable Anti-Christian Racial Hoax; Ignore Evidence Against It

    Burning ChurchBy Selwyn Duke

“Now, where do I go to get my reputation back?” So reads a famous paraphrase of public official Raymond Donovan, who expressed the sentiment after his high-profile 1980s acquittal on fraud and grand larceny charges. As is virtually always the case, it’s easier to be cleared in a court of law than in the court of public opinion.

This is especially true when the media are intensely interested in covering damning charges against you, but almost totally uninterested in covering your exoneration.

This could come to mind with the further debunking of a vicious anti-Christian racial hoax, one that led to “retaliatory” 2021 church burnings in Canada: The claim that “mass child graves” were discovered at Catholic and Protestant residential schools for Indian students.

Even at the time, as I related in my essay “Churches Burn in Canada Based on Blood-libel Myth,” those with eyes to see knew there was no actual evidence of mass child graves. This didn’t stop The New York Times from writing in June 2021, in what commentator Andrea Widburg calls a “representative article,” the following:

  • The Beast Is Back: Georgia Institution Reinstates Covid Mask Mandate — Just for “14 Days”

    Bad DoctorBy Selwyn Duke

As late singer Charlie Daniels might’ve said, “The Devil went down to Georgia.” What, though, is he looking to steal?

    Health?

    Confidence?

    Security?

    Common sense?

    Or, is it an election?

One commentator wonders about the latter with news that a Georgia institution, Morris Brown College in Atlanta, has just re-instituted a restrictive Covid-19 mask mandate. And here’s the kicker:

It’s “a precautionary move for the next 14 days,” reports WSB-TV. My, “14 days.” … Where have we heard that before?

  • Professor Says Kids Identifying as “Gender Minotaurs” Are Part of a Welcome “Revolution”

    Sex Symbols-ConfusionBy Selwyn Duke

Approximately 100 years ago, G.K. Chesterton called common sense “that forgotten branch of psychology.”

Psychologists have been proving him right ever since, too.

The latest example is a California hospital chief psychologist who claims that children can identify as the “gender” version of a mythical creature and that such kids love mermaids.

Moreover, the practitioner often gets her guidance from small children, saying they know more than adults do about “being gender expansive.”
