There’s a joke that goes, “My father died in 2015 after being a Republican his entire adult life.”

“He’s been voting Democrat ever since.”

But the powerful and famous get treated differently upon passing on — they can become scions of the Left. Republican Ronald Reagan, whom liberals impugned in the ’80s as stupid and racist, would be aghast at today’s GOP, some leftist commentators now aver. The implication is that he was a “reasonable” Republican, you see; why, they could maybe even vote for a Republican if only, by gum, he were just like the Gipper! (Never mind that, as a story I heard went, a person’s whole college class cheered upon hearing in 1981 that Reagan was shot.)

Then there’s Jesus, who, we’re told by many, was actually a socialist. Apparently, the Left has gone from the Cold War era’s “Better red than dead” to “When dead you turn red.” (Note: Before the Left co-opted blue, “red” was a color of the Left — of communists.)

And now the Left is at the memory-appropriation game again, and this time one liberal has truly jumped the shark….

You can tell much about a society by what its establishment is sensitive to. For example, while Major League Baseball dropped the Chief Wahoo logo and other American Indian symbols, the Los Angeles Dodgers doesn’t appear to have a problem honoring the “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence,” whose very purpose is to mock the faith of 62 million Americans. Then there’s this, also out of the City of Angels:

In 2020, Black Lives Matter-affiliated protesters burned an American flag on camera, an act the Supreme Court has called “protected speech.” More recently, May 22 morn, the sexual devolutionary banner euphemistically known as a “pride flag” was found burned at a North Hollywood school. Yet this act the authorities call something else: a “hate crime.”

In fact, the Los Angeles Police Department has launched a “hate crime” investigation and is seeking the perpetrator(s).

USA Today, some may say, is so yesterday. This may be especially true now that the paper has published an op-ed in which it states that opposition to having men in women’s sports is a sham driven by “bigotry … hate, fear and ignorance” — and that we should focus on yesterday’s feminists’ agenda.

“Don’t be fooled by the people who screech about ‘fairness,’” screeches USA Today writer Nancy Armour, who donned her literary armour (a nod to British spelling) and unsheathed her not-quite-mightier-than-the-sword pen after ESPN’s Samantha Ponder gave her something to ponder and piqued her puerile passions. (Eat your heart out, Peter Piper.)

At issue is a tweet (below) in which Ponder mentioned her recently expressed opposition to having MUSS (Made-up Sexual Status, aka “transgender”) males compete in females’ sports.

“Wisdom doesn’t always come with age,” the saying goes — “sometimes age just shows up all by itself.” Critics could thus lament with news that actress Jane Fonda, 85, has again confirmed her status as a notorious left-wing activist. Unlike with her anti-Vietnam-war activities, however, which untold numbers of veterans say amounted to treason, Fonda appears to have little to say about today’s fashionable wars (e.g., Ukraine involvement). Instead, she’s warring against Western prosperity, white people, and what she calls the “patriarchy.”

In fact, at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, the actress blamed white men and racism for climate change.

What’s more, she said that the white men responsible for it should be arrested and jailed.

When hearing about rival Somali political factions rioting, one might assume the event occurred in Somalia, where political violence is the norm. But the mayhem in question actually was in Minneapolis, where, increasingly, being Somali is the norm. (Apparently, “Minnesota nice” hasn’t rubbed off.)

Seldom do our society’s Christophobes come up with anything new when attacking the object of their ire. Yet this rare occurrence might just have happened, in what can rightly be described as a jump-the-shark version of anti-Christian criticism: an attack on forgiveness.

At issue is a Monday Independent article titled “Miriam Toews: ‘Forgiveness is a religious construct, a means of maintaining the status quo.’” Toews, apparently, is a Canadian novelist of some repute who, having been raised in a Mennonite community, is still at close to 60 years old in a teenage rebellion phase.
