• Conversion by the WordWhat should our reaction be when others pray for our conversion?

There recently was a story about a German Jewish
leader, Charlotte Knobloch, who criticized Pope Benedict XVI for allowing a
traditional Easter prayer that calls for the conversion of the Jewish people. Her reaction raises an interesting issue, as
praying for conversion isn’t unique to Catholics any more than taking offense
to it is unique to Jews. And to start
this topic off, I’d like to pose a question: Who do you think would be more
likely to take umbrage at being the object of such a supplication, a person of
deep belief or one of the superficial variety?

Dutch politician Geert Wilders is haunted by the specter of creeping
Islamism in his nation. So much so that he created a 15-minute movie
critical of Islam called Fitna. But while the oft-threatened,
intrepid lawmaker hasn’t been deterred by the murder of fellow
countryman Theo Van Gogh by a Moslem fundamentalist, others are
characterized more by pusillanimity than principle. A case in point is
Network Solutions, which has frozen his movie’s domain name,
    http://www.fitnathemovie.com, and linked it to a page stating;

  • Cultural Affirmative Action

    In a way, I
prefer the old, overt affirmative action. While it was government-sanctioned
discrimination, at least it was, in some measure, more honest than our cultural
affirmative action. There is such a thing. It’s when people in the market and
media privilege others – sometimes unconsciously – based upon the latter’s
    identification with a “victim group.”

Everyone is talking about Hillary Clinton’s latest tall tale, the one pertaining to her 1990s Bosnia trip.  She landed in a hail of sniper fire and had to run for her life to nearby vehicles.   Yes, and I’m Indiana Jones.

  • Justifications of Modern Man

    By Selwyn Duke

With all the trappings of modernity — our technology, bells and whistles — it’s easy to believe we’re civilized.  The truth is quite the opposite.  It just seems that for about a half a century now, while our technology has grown in leaps and bounds, our wisdom has declined almost as fast.

  • Breaking News: The Stifling of Free Speech – Internet Registry Freezes Domain of Anti-Islamist Movie

    By Selwyn Duke

Participating in an effort to stifle criticism of Islam, Internet registry Network Solutions has frozen the domain of Dutch politician Geert Wilders.  Wilders, who has warned his countrymen of a "tsunami of Islamization," intended to release his movie Fitna — a critique of Islam — at the domain "http://fitnathemovie.com" by the end of this month.  But now the domain links to a Network Solutions page with the following message:

  • Bill O’Reilly’s Obama Contradiction

    By Selwyn Duke

When all is said and done, the slippery Illinois senator running for president may steal Molly Brown’s nickname and be known as the unsinkable Barack Obama.  This is especially likely given the kid-gloves treatment he’s receiving from the media.  And, unfortunately, Mr. No Spin himself, Bill O’Reilly, is part of this.

  • FT.com: Supreme Court set to back gun rights

    By Selwyn Duke

Patti Waldmeir of the Financial Times reports that the Supreme Court appears poised to uphold an individual’s right to bear arms.  As you may know, a landmark Second Amendment case has come before the court, as a lower court has ruled in favor of a security guard who was upset that he couldn’t keep his handgun in his home in the District of Columbia.
