• Chris Matthews in the Dog House

Liberal pundit and host of "Hardball," Chris Matthews, has actually run afoul of the  politically-correct thought police.  I have no use for Matthews’ commentary and generally don’t watch his show, but, not surprisingly, this is one of the few times I agree with him.

  • The Mercury Danger of CFL Bulbs

    By Selwyn Duke

World Net Daily had a startling story about the mercury danger posed by the new CFL light bulbs.  Those are the ones environmentalists are trying to ram down our throats through regulation.  It seems that if you break even just one in your home, you’re going to have to spend $2000 to have a hazardous materials abatement service clean up the mess.

If you think I exaggerate, talk to Brandy Bridges; her daughter’s bedroom had to be sealed off until she could afford the clean-up costs.

  • The Emotion Notion

    Crying
    By Selwyn Duke

Although I’m not fond of psycho-babble terminology, if we can speak of emotional IQ, I can say it’s not very high in general.  We live in the age of Oprah — who has an encounter group masquerading as a TV talk show — the age of "I feel your pain."  Thus, it’s not surprising that people are taken in by emotional contrivances, such as a candidate who sheds opportune tears.

  • Obama’s Racist Associations

    By Selwyn Duke

At American Thinker, writer Lee Cary treats Barack Hussein Obama’s racial hypocrisy.  After pointing out that Obama has been preaching a philosophy of inclusiveness, saying there is no black America or white America (the "uniter, not a divider" schtick), Cary exposes the hollowness of the senator’s words.  Writes Cary:

  • The Plastic Lady

    Hillarysmouth
    By Selwyn Duke

The pundits were writing Plastic Lady’s epitaph,
Pointing to lines going down on a graph.
    She had a bad finish out west a little ways;
To socialist utopians, it was the end of days.

  • Hillary’s Collapse and the Swing Voter

    Elephantdonkey
    By Selwyn Duke

After Barack Hussein Obama’s win in Iowa, many in the media were speaking of Hillary Clinton’s imminent demise.  It might have seemed that in an effort to manufacture a story, her epitaph had been written prematurely.  Yes, Obama was poised to duplicate his resounding Iowa victory in New Hampshire, but Lady Macbeth was still ahead nationally by an average of about 20 points, a margin she had held since the campaign’s start.  Yet, Obama has now leap-frogged Clinton in South Carolina polls and, more significantly, runs even with her nationally in the latest Gallup poll.

  • Duke Responds to Reader Who Says He’s Too Negative

    Negativity By Selwyn Duke

A while back I received an email from a reader who complained that while I’m very good at leveling criticism, I don’t provide many solutions.  Since I’ve heard this before — not frequently, but it has been said — I wanted to respond.

  • A Uniter, Not a Divider; Whatever

    By Selwyn Duke

In the netherworld of vacuous political discourse, near the nadir of utter nonsense, even below blather about "experience," are platitudes about being a "uniter, not a divider."  Quite fittingly, the one who specializes in empty political rhetoric grandiosely delivered, Barack Obama, mentioned something to this effect in his Iowa victory speech.

  • When Good Science Collides with Bad Ideology

    Dna
    By Selwyn Duke

DNA technology has been an invaluable crime-fighting tool, allowing law enforcement to identify both the innocent and the guilty.  And since it has been so welcomed by authorities, molecular biologist Tony Frudakis had every reason to believe that his great advance in suspect identification — called "DNAWitness" — would be well received.  But this was not the case.

  • Duke’s Latest WND Article: How Diversity Cops Actually Reduce Diversity

Very far from the Bible Belt but very close to the culture war is the Christian community of Ocean Grove, New Jersey.  The beachfront town is an anomaly: A bit of red in a state that tends blue.  It was founded in 1869 by the Methodist Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association, which owns all the town’s land.  It’s a place where the beach is closed on Sundays between 8:30am and 12:30pm, a place where alcohol still isn’t sold.

It’s also the target of the first homosexual-union civil rights complaint since NJ recognized the unions last year.
