“It’s more complicated when it’s about your own children,” said a New York City liberal years ago, reacting to “diversity” efforts in his kids’ school. It’s also more complicated, apparently, when it’s about your own power and position — then, suddenly, Diversity™ may not seem so appealing.

Just ask 2024 candidates Adam Schiff and Katie Porter; they could tell you. That the Democratic California congressmen are both vying for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by the late Dianne Feinstein isn’t sitting well with some fellow liberals; in fact, they’ve been told to “sacrifice their egos and ambitions” and cease their affirmative inaction — and why?

So that a black woman can have the Senate seat.

To heck with what the voters want, apparently.

Could you imagine telling your kids that you weren’t going to have money for home security, their schoolbooks, or grandma’s meals because you want to support some squatters who invaded your property? This is analogous to what’s now happening in New York City, where left-wing Mayor Eric Adams has announced budget cuts to pay for the “migrant crisis.” This includes slashing Gotham’s police force to 29,000 cops — the lowest level since the mid ’90s. Note here that police morale is already low in the wake of Black Lives Matter-movement-oriented attacks on law enforcement.

In addition, the city has announced that it will close public libraries on weekends and cut almost $550 million from its Education Department. This comes after learning in June that NYC would cut “meals for senior citizens, re-entry programming for Rikers Island prisoners, and free, full-day care for three-year-olds,” as Bloomberg related at the time.

Oh, the Big Apple also plans to remove trash cans from the sidewalks. This, of course, is just what the city needs as it battles a rat crisis.

But, hey, you have to pay for the migrants’ $300-a-night hotel rooms somehow.

We probably wouldn’t be surprised if we learned that making women believe femininity was bad harmed their mental health. Ditto for convincing children that having a childlike nature is bad. So perhaps it’s also no shock that, according to a recent study, convincing men masculinity is a negative force damages their psyches.

It’s called the breakdown of civil society. It’s also called something else:

Having good people subsidize thieving miscreants through higher costs of goods and services.

Call it the Lowlife Tax.

Or the Irresponsibility Tax.

Or, perhaps even more fittingly, the Electing the Wrong Politicians Tax.

(Winner, winner, chicken dinner?)

The latest example — of many — is an apparently organized robbery at a Memphis, Tennessee, intersection in which several cars blocked in a FedEx truck, after which dozens of criminals pillaged the semi’s packages.

Jesse Ventura, who had the nickname “the body” during his professional wrestling days and wanted to be known as “the mind” when he was Minnesota governor, perhaps now should have the moniker “the green-eyed.” Some may thus conclude after the 72-year-old said that “nobody works hard enough to earn a billion dollars” and, consequently, that “there should not be one billionaire in America.”

Ventura said nothing, however, about whether there should be multi-millionaires.

Perhaps coincidentally, he happens to be a multi-millionaire.

When visiting certain places, you’re only allowed to witness what the authorities want you to see. One of these places is North Korea.

Another is San Francisco — that is, if the visitor happens to be Chinese dictator Xi Jinping.

After all, the City by the Bay — known in recent times for homeless encampments, drug use, feces and needles on the sidewalks, and crime — looked like it had gotten a full treatment by the Cat in the Hat and Felix Unger when Xi rolled into town for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit this week. It was so clean, in fact, that California’s governor, hard-left Gavin Newsom, was asked about the transformation and confirmed that, yes, while cleanliness may not be next to godliness in today’s San Francisco, cleanliness is next to a godless pseudo-communist there (video below).

What’s more, reports hold that not only did Xi’s route look like a Chinese thoroughfare, lined with communist flags and American flags absent, but even the Left’s cherished rainbow flag was missing.

In one old Get Smart episode, agent Maxwell Smart is being evaluated by a psychiatrist who’s administering a Rorschach test. After Smart proceeds to interpret every nondescript inkblot as people or animals engaging in sexual congress, the shrink exclaims in a stereotypical heavy German accent, “Mr. Shmaht, you zeem to be obzessed vith zex!” Smart’s defensive reply is, “Well, you’re the one showing me the dirty pictures!”

This comes to mind when pondering today’s dirty racial minds — which, sadly, too often rain their filth down upon children. A good example is a recent case in which a California middle schooler was punished for innocently enjoying himself at a football game. His offense?

Emulating NFL players, he applied “eye black” to his face.

This was interpreted as “blackface” by his woke school, which then leapt into action.

After the spawning of Black Lives Matter, anti-white hate crimes surged. You wouldn’t know it from mainstream media reportage, though, a good example of which is the coverage of a recent heinous incident in Las Vegas. For while a 17-year-old white boy was beaten to death by approximately 15 black teens, the media are, predictably, mostly uninterested in the story.

In fairness, the murder of Jonathan Lewis has not been deemed a “hate crime” and may never be; authorities are far more reluctant to bring such charges in black-on-white incidents than when the races are reversed. But that doesn’t change the reality, say all those who haven’t been sleeping as long as Rip Van Winkle or lying as much as Pinocchio, that the crime’s national coverage would be wall-to-wall had it been a white-on-black assault.

As with George Washington before him, new House Speaker Mike Johnson could be seen not long ago on bended knee, in his case on the House floor, praying for divine guidance. It reflects a dedication to and openness about his faith that has attracted much, and varied, attention. The New York Times wrote late last month that Johnson has “aligned himself with a newer cohort of conservative Christianity that some describe as Christian nationalism,” while a more recent American Thinker title states that the speaker’s faith “Calls Us to Greater Integrity.” It’s a pseudo-elite-vs.-street dichotomy that’s predictable today: The quintessential establishment outlet the Times carries the secularist banner while the revolutionary media supports a faith whose deposit of Truth is (when considered in its entirety), in most every time and place, revolutionary.

But what is the Truth? Should Johnson’s Christianity be feared or revered, suppressed or buttressed, flouted or touted?

Perhaps this matter can be made clear by understanding a simple truth, one most shocking to moderns’ ears: All just law has a basis in what we call “religion”….
