It’s easy to be idealistic when you don’t have to live with your ideals. But the Democrats will have to live with their Green New Deal ideals now at least a little bit, as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Tuesday that the Senate will schedule a vote on the plan. This has left many Democrats reeling and squealing because they’ll now have to go on record as for or against a climate-change scheme that even fellow liberal Howard Shultz, a possible presidential contender, has called “unrealistic” and “immoral.”

What do you do when you put risible radicalism in writing? If you’re Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), you scrub the revealing document from your website. Unfortunately for the socialist congresswoman, however, the Internet is forever. The result was that one of her advisors later claimed the document, a Green New Deal FAQ, was the nefarious work of Republicans. She then tacitly endorsed this notion in a tweet before her staff admitted that, yes, it was theirs — but had been put on their website by mistake.

The embarrassing supplemental document — which sometimes reads like Bart Simpson meets the Bolsheviks — went live Thursday morning. But it was killed Thursday afternoon after proposals such as guaranteeing economic security even for those “unwilling to work” and the elimination of “farting cows” and air travel brought criticism and mockery.

Dubbed the Green Leap Forward, the document promises a complete overhaul of our entire economy, with the total elimination of fossil fuels and nuclear power. Likening this radicalism to the building of the interstate highway system and JFK’s lunar ambitions, its author(s) sought to inspire followers with pep-talk language such as “This is our moonshot.”

But it was such a miss that Cornell University Law School professor Robert Hockett, who advises Ocasio-Cortez on environmental policy, claimed Friday evening that it was a GOP-disgorged fiction.

She’s not as ambitious as Stalin or Mao with their five-year plans — she needs 10 years. But that’s all it will take, claims Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), to completely overhaul the American economy, achieving net-zero CO₂ emissions, a total fossil-fuel phase-out, and the combustion engine’s and air travel’s elimination. A long way from stealing tips at the bar, it’s her version of Year Zero.

But zero is precisely what our economy would be if the greenhorn congresswoman got her way with her “Green New Deal.” Unveiled Thursday morning, it’s a top-down, Big Brother scheme that promises the world and to save the world and, fancifully, to turn a profit in the process.

Are you ready for more clogged roads, crowded hospitals and schools, urban sprawl, pollution, and resource strain? Because legal and illegal (im)migrants and their children are projected to add 75 million people to the United States by 2060, according to Census Bureau figures. This is the equivalent of adding the peoples of France and Belgium combined (without the great bread and chocolate) and would swell our population from the current 325 million to 404 million in just 41 years.

Reflecting America’s low white birthrate and how statists manage to import voters via immigration, whites’ percentage of the electorate is consistently shrinking while blacks’, Hispanics’, and Asians’ share is growing. In fact, the latest projections show that whites will constitute a historic low of only 66.7 percent of 2020-election voters, despite their traditionally being more likely to cast ballots than other groups. Another historic first is that Hispanics will outnumber blacks among voters, albeit by a tiny margin, according to the Pew Research Center.

From The Terminator to D.A.R.Y.L, science-fiction writers have presented memorable, though very different, visions of “self-aware” robots. But now it’s being reported that science itself has taken a giant step toward creating such — though, it seems, there was a similar report in 2016. Whatever the state of research into creating self-aware machines, however, are we aware of the implications such developments have for man?

It’s certainly a sign of the times that Governor Ralph Northam’s resignation has been demanded not because of an apparent endorsement of infanticide, but because of a 1984 yearbook photo. Yet another sign is how, while Virginia’s Northam is condemned for having appeared in blackface or a KKK costume, another man is being honored despite having actually appeared before a KKK rally and preaching strict racial separation.

This man expressed affection for notorious segregationist governor George Wallace (D-Ala.), regularly taunted adversaries with racial insults and even insisted that people in mixed-race relationships be killed. This man’s name was Muhammad Ali.
