• Gunphobia: Preschooler Suspended for Having a Spent .22 Shell Casing

    2455472_blogBy Selwyn Duke

“Guns, hunting, etc., are not subjects that are to be discussed in school,” informed the administrator. So read a letter sent to Collinsville, Illinois, resident Kristy Jackson, the mother of a four-year-old boy suspended for seven days. His offense?

He secretly brought a spent .22 caliber shell casing to school and enjoys turning toys into imaginary guns.

Moreover, the school, A Place 2 Grow in Troy, doesn’t like certain facts any more than it does imagination. When Mrs. Jackson related her woes in a now-viral Facebook post, the school reported her to the Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS) in what she described to The New American as a “revenge move.”

  • Christianity Doomed in Iraq, Says ‘Vicar of Baghdad’

    Muslim Holding SwordBy Selwyn Duke

It’s considered one of the world’s oldest Christian populations—now it’s poised to become the most recent driven to extinction. So says Canon Andrew White, a prominent churchman known as the “vicar of Baghdad,” about Iraqi Christians.

Reverend White led St. George’s Church in Baghdad, the only Anglican church in Iraq, until the Archbishop of Canterbury ordered him to leave in November 2014 as the Islamic State threat grew. He thus became part of an exodus during which the country’s Christian population has dwindled from approximately 1.4 million three decades ago, to about one million after Saddam Hussein’s ouster, to a mere 250,000 today.

  • “Trans” Man Wins Women’s Weightlifting Competition

    Sex Symbols-ConfusionBy Selwyn Duke

    He beat the girls.

No, it’s not politically correct to put it that way. Mainstream outlets universally refer to Laurel Hubbard (shown in center), who won his weight class in an Australian women’s weightlifting competition, as a “transgender woman” — meaning a man claiming female status. But at the end of the day, that’s what it amounts to.

  • Twitter Is Irate Over Bernie Sanders’ Tweet That US ‘Worships Wealth’

    Greedy ManBy Selwyn Duke

After complaining that our nation “worships wealth,” Bernie Sanders is learning that people who own three glass houses (or three regular ones) shouldn’t throw stones.

At issue is a twitterverse uproar the Vermont senator sparked with the following Saturday morning tweet:

  • Seattle Politicians Push Lowlife-Enabling Laws

Big Man Stepping on Small ManBy Selwyn Duke

If you’re a mom-and-pop landlord, you probably wouldn’t want to rent to a prospective tenant you caught leering at your 12-year-old daughter. But under a new Seattle law that robs you of using discretion, you have no choice.

Known as the “first in time” ordinance, it states that “Seattle residential landlords must accept essentially all forms of alternative income and accept the first applicant who qualifies,”

  • Warning: Judges Creating “Affirmative Right to Immigrate”

    Judge pounding GavelBy Selwyn Duke

In the name of stopping Donald Trump, the courts are not only endangering Americans but could be ushering in “the end of the United States in any meaningful sense.” They’re doing this by creating, out of thin air, an “affirmative right to immigrate,” says senior Conservative Review editor Daniel Horowitz.

As happened with President Trump’s first immigration ban, federal judges recently blocked his second, trimmed-down ban. This is not just a gross abuse of judicial power, but….

  • Experts Again Say High-fat Diet Can Be Beneficial

    Plate of RibsBy Selwyn Duke

Trimming the fat in government is great, but you may want to think twice before cutting it out of your diet. For an increasing body of research indicates that a more traditional menu — replete with foods such as butter and whole milk — is more healthful than the lean fare prescribed during the last few decades.

  • Students Support Religious Rights (for Muslims, but Not Christians)

    By Selwyn Duke

When asked recently if Muslims could refuse to do business with Christians, a group of college students didn’t hesitate to say yes. But when asked if Christians likewise have a right to decline work conflicting with their religious beliefs, well, their tune changed a tad.

  • Most Imported Foods Inspected ‘Only if Something Goes Terribly Wrong’

    Chained RefrigeratorBy Selwyn Duke

There was the deadly 2015 salmonella outbreak traced to Mexican cucumbers, tuna from an Indian plant with “water tanks rife with microbiological contamination,” hepatitis A outbreaks originating from Mexican green onions and Egyptian frozen strawberries, and taintedChinese pet food blamed for more than 1,000 dogs deaths in the U.S.

This sampling from the annals of foul food raises a question: Many Mideast migrants cannot be vetted because Third World countries provide third-rate information, but is Third World food even more of an unknown?

  • $53M Fines for Politically Incorrect Social Media Posts?

    Silenced ManBy Selwyn Duke

In a move designed to chill free speech, a German “justice” official has proposed fining social-media sites up to $53 million for not swiftly deleting “hateful” posts. Welcome to the new Germany — same as the old Germany.

Justice Minister Heiko Maas, a member of the leftist Social Democratic Party, acknowledged that social-media sites had already taken steps to voluntarily suppress speech. But in issuing his Orwellian proposal, he stated, “‘This isn't sufficient yet’ … citing research that he said showed Twitter deletes just 1 percent of illegal content flagged by users, while Facebook deletes 39 percent,” reports the Associated Press.
